    • A control system for a multiphase electric motor includes inputs for a desired torque output of the motor, a measured torque output of the motor, a signal representative of optimal motor efficiency; a signal representative of a measured efficiency of the motor. The output is a two-dimensional DQ control voltage. A torque feedback control loop minimizes error between the desired and measured torque outputs by controlling an angle of the DQ control voltage, and a motor efficiency feedback control loop minimizes error between the optimal and measured motor efficiencies by controlling a magnitude of the DQ control voltage.

    • A control system for a motor includes a current regulation controller for generating a terminal voltage command. The terminal voltage command is used for converting a supply voltage to a three phase voltage to power a motor. The control system also includes a terminal voltage command feedback module for controlling the terminal voltage command. The terminal voltage command feedback module compares the terminal voltage command to a determined voltage limit of the supply voltage and generates a d-axis current adjustment command in accordance with the comparison. The d-axis current adjustment command is used for reducing the terminal voltage command below the determined voltage limit. The control system also includes a summer coupled with the terminal voltage command feedback module. The summer adds the d-axis current adjustment command to a d-axis current command received from a lookup table.

    • Under a low load condition, a produced torque is small and a synthetic current command I* with respect to an armature of a servomotor is small so that a magnitude in a negative direction of a reactive current command Id* determined by Id*=−|I*|·sin θ is small. As a result, under the low load condition, the synthetic current flowing through the armature can be small, and generation of wasteful heat can be suppressed. Further, under a high load condition, because a q-axis current Iq that produces the torque is large, voltage saturation is liable to occur. However, at the same time, the overall current command I* is large under the high load condition, and Id* is large in the negative direction. Therefore, a large reactive current Id can be flowed in the negative direction, and voltage saturation under the high load condition can be effectively prevented.
