    • The present invention relates to an electromagnetically actuatable valve having a longitudinal valve axis (3), having an electromagnetic circuit (1, 2), having a movable actuating member (25), that cooperates with a fixed valve seat (23) for opening and closing the valve, and having an outlet opening (8) that is configured downstream of the valve seat (23). The actuating member (25) is executed in a bowl, trough, or saucer shape, having an actuating leg (26) and a supporting leg (27) that is configured so as to be substantially perpendicular to the former. The actuating leg (26), as a movable part of the actuating member (25), cooperates with an upper layer (15) of atomization disk (12), so as to form a sealing valve. The valve is especially well-suited for use as a fuel injector in an internal combustion engine, especially in a mixture-compressing, spark-ignition internal combustion engine.

    • An electronic fuel injector capable of supplying fuel in a stable manner is provided by employing a swirler, which is manufactured at a lower cost and has durability, and by ensuring superior wear resistance of the swirler and a valve member provided on a movable part, which is put into frictional contact with the swirler. The electronic fuel injector comprises a movable part, a valve member, a valve seat, a swirler, a stopper, a stator core, a casing, a spring, and an electromagnetic coil. A valve member is provided at a fore end of the movable part. The swirler serves not only to swirl fuel, but also to guide movement of the valve member provided at the fore end of the movable part. The swirler is formed of a powder sintered compact of martensitic stainless steel having corrosion resistance and wear resistance.

    • A fuel injector. In one embodiment, the fuel injector includes an inner housing having an outlet port and a flow passage therein which is in fluid communication with the outlet port. The flow passage has a tapered end portion and a constant and continuous cross-section for the remaining length thereof. The fuel injector may also include a valve stem movably received in the flow passage. The valve stem has a cross-section conforming in shape to the passage, and the valve stem is selectively movable between a closed position wherein the valve stem blocks the outlet port and an open position. The fuel injector may also include an electrical coil assembly removably affixed to the inner housing.

    • An injector coil body assembly with upper and lower coil bodies is held together with a spring type press fit instead of welding. The coil bodies are made with generally tubular connecting portions telescoped together around the magnetic coil. The downwardly open tubular lower portion of the upper body is longer and slightly smaller than the connecting upwardly open tubular upper portion of the lower body so that the lower portion of the upper body fits into the upper portion of the lower body. A longitudinal slot in the upper body lower portion allows the lower portion to spring in slightly upon insertion into the lower body upper portion so that the upper and lower bodies are retained in assembly by a spring biased press fit. The press fit holds the telescoped portions in close contact, providing an efficient path for carrying the magnetic flux of the coil.

    • An intake manifold assembly includes an improved air intake manifold receiving novel side feed fuel injectors. A fuel rail is integrated as a common part defining a common fuel passage integral with the air intake manifold. The common fuel passage supplies the side feed fuel injectors through openings that are spaced away from the injector nozzles toward an opposite connector end of each injector. The injector design concentrates an actuating coil, armature and nozzle valve in a lower or nozzle end of the injector. The fuel is fed from the side feed opening through an axially centered fuel passage that extends through the coil and the associated armature to the injection valve in a manner identical to corresponding top feed injectors. Thus, the performance advantages of top feed injection systems are provided while gaining the reduction in cost attributable to elimination of the separate fuel rail and subassembly. Various arrangements are disclosed for retaining the injectors in the manifold assembly.
