    • A reduced air hydrocyclone unit includes a hydrocyclone having a cylindrical section, a conical base having an underflow outlet formed in its apex, and an overflow outlet on an upper end of the cylindrical section. An underflow basin collects underflow material. Overflow material flows through an overflow line. An exhaust fan of the reduced air hydrocyclone unit withdraws from the overflow material in the overflow line a portion of an amount of air introduced through the apex of the hydrocyclone. A reduced air fluid system includes the reduced air hydrocyclone unit, a fluid tank in fluid communication with the overflow line of the reduced air hydrocyclone unit, and a reduced air hopper for mixing a solid material with a fluid contained in the fluid tank to form a slurry. A liquid barrier inlet of the reduced air hopper creates a liquid barrier to prevent air introduction into the slurry.

    • A barite recovery hopper includes a shell having an open top, wherein the barite recovery hopper is adapted to receive a flow of recovered barite particles from a solids discharge chute of a decanter centrifuge through the open top of the shell. An inlet is adapted to receive a flow of drilling mud from a mud tank. A hopper bypass gate is adapted to seal a bottom opening of the shell when the hopper bypass gate is in a closed position during a barite recovery operation, and to allow collection of at least a portion of the recovered barite particles for mixture, inside of the barite recovery hopper, with the flow of drilling mud received through the inlet when the hopper bypass gate is in the closed position. An outlet is adapted to discharge a flow of the recovered barite particle/drilling mud mixture to the mud tank.

    • An apparatus is disclosed for separating minerals in drilling fluid based primarily on density. The separator creates and maintains a slurry with a controllable density for separating minerals from drill cuttings. The density is controlled through the use of an electrode array. The separator comprises a primary separation chamber containing the dense slurry, and a multiple number of secondary separation chambers used to separate cuttings from the drilling fluid. The invention also contains inlet hardware allowing the mixed mineral suspension to enter the first separation chamber, and hardware allowing the three outlet (separated) streams to exit the device. One of the three outlet streams carries the minerals that have a density greater than the user selectable density set point, while the second carries the minerals that have a density less than the density set point, and the third carries clean drilling fluid.
