摘要： A method of the thermally spraying a solid lubricant (i.e. graphite or BN) impregnated metal matrix onto a metal target, using the steps of: (a) creating a flame or arc into which a consummable strand is fed, the strand being constituted as a hollow sheath of metal and a core therein comprising essentially solid lubricant powder particles, the flame or arc melting the metal of such strand; (b) applying a pressurized jet of atomizing gas to the melt and included graphite particles to project a spray of molten heavy metal and graphite particles generally homogeneously distributed throughout such spray, said graphite being protected against ablation during transit from the flame or arc to the target; and (c) surface heat treating essentially only the deposit to precipitate additional graphite while densifying the metal and controlling microstructure.

摘要： Metallic articles, for instance, ferrous strips are metallized, for instance, zinc coated by passing the heated article through a coating chamber and applying thereto a continuous stream of the molten coating metal so as to uniformly and evenly metallize said article. Thereafter, excess molten coating metal is removed from the coated article by hot gas blasting and the hot gas blasted article leaving the coating chamber is immediately cooled. Wiping means may be provided before applying the molten coating metal so as to deflect any molten coating metal dropping from the metallic article passing therethrough, while rollers may be arranged between the coating metal applying means and the hot gas blasting means. Said rollers serve to remove the major part of excess coating metal from the coated metallic article and to stabilize movement of the metallic article passing through the coating chamber. In contrast to known application of coating metal by atomizing or spraying, no gas is admixed to the continuous stream of the molten coating metal which is, so to say, gently poured onto the surface of the metallic article. Thus coating is effected within a short period of time and a non-porous coating is achieved. Further said short period of time of exposure of the steel article to the liquid zinc enables to eliminate the customary addition of aluminum to the spelter, thus permitting the use of steam for the hot blast instead of the more expensive non-oxidizing gas for that purpose, likewise eliminating the formation of White rust.

摘要： In a method of depositing films of metal on a series of plates or sheets by spray painting, the metal is sprayed through a series of masks cut in paper or other material of small value compared with metal, each mask being discarded at or before the stage at which the margin has become contaminated sufficiently to require cleaning. As shown, applied to an apparatus for coating a series of mica plates in succession, paper 3 is passed in step by step motion, imparted by a ratchet 16 and a friction drum 5, under a hole-punching device 25 and on to a spraying station where a mica sheet, removed from a magazine 36 in which a number are stacked, by means of a suction nozzle 38, is deposited on the aperture. Metal from an automatically-operated spray gun 35 is deposited on the exposed portion of the mica which then moves forward to a point where a second suction nozzle removes the coated sheet and transfers it to a travelling belt for further processing, e.g., heat treatment, the paper being discarded. The sequence of operations is controlled by cams operated by a continuously rotating shaft 9. The second Provisional Specification relates to the construction and operation of the magazine 36 and states that it may be used for purposes other than in the apparatus described above. Specification 589,582 is referred to.

According to the method for manufacturing a cylinder block, superior cylindricity, after assembling the bearing caps, of the cylinder bores on each of which the thermally sprayed coating is formed can be brought, and workability degradation of finishing works (honing) for each inner surface of the cylinder bores (thermally sprayed coatings) can be restricted.
