    • Merging search results is required, for example, where an information retrieval system issues a query to multiple sources and obtains multiple results lists. In an embodiment a search engine at an Enterprise domain sends a query to the Enterprise search engine and also to a public Internet search engine. In embodiments, results lists obtained from different sources are merged using a merging model which is learnt using a machine learning process and updates when click-through data is observed for example. In examples, user information available in the Enterprise domain is used to influence the merging process to improve the relevance of results. In some examples, the user information is used for query modification. In an embodiment a user is able to impersonate a user of a specified group in order to promote particular results.

    • Event prediction using hierarchical event features is described. In an embodiment a search engine monitors search results presented to users and whether users click on those search results. For example, features describing the search result events are universal resource locator prefix levels which are inherently hierarchically related. In an embodiment a graphical data structure is created and stored and used to represent the hierarchical relationships between features. An online training process is used in examples which enables knowledge to be propagated through the graphical data structure according to the hierarchical relations between features. In an example, the graphical data structure is used to predict whether a user will click on a search result and those predictions are used by the search engine to rank search results for future searches. In another example the events are advertisement impressions and the predictions are used by an online advertisement system.

    • Methods of isolating cellular products, such as pancreatic islets, may be used in diabetes research and therapeutic transplantation. The methods may involve providing a tissue having desired cells that are less prone to destructive freezing and undesired cells that are more prone to destructive freezing, or pre-treating a tissue to have such characteristics. The methods may involve freezing the tissue, disrupting the tissue, warming the tissue, and separating the desired cells from undesired cellular material to obtain the cellular product. The methods may thereby provide an enzyme-free or reduced-enzyme method of isolating a cellular product that is more consistent, reliable and less toxic than conventional methods. The methods may also yield an optimum quantity of cellular product that retain sufficient functional integrity to be useful as a transplantation resource.

    • A keyless entry touch pad system for a vehicle includes a substrate with a plurality of touch zones disposed on one surface of the substrate, and a plurality of electrode patterns disposed on the opposite surface. An inner electrode of each pattern is aligned with one of the touch zones. Each pattern is electrically coupled to an integrated control circuit, which outputs a signal to and energizes the electrodes of the pattern such that electric fields emanates therefrom. The electrode patterns may be capacitively coupled to the integrated control circuit. When the electric field of the inner electrode is disturbed by a stimulus proximate the corresponding touch zone, the component is activated. Upon activation of the components in a predetermined sequence, a controller causes the vehicle door to unlock. A method of unlocking a vehicle is also disclosed.

    • A two stage method of thawing cells from a cryopreserved state includes first warming the cells from a cryopreservation temperature to a transition temperature of at least −30° C. in a first, slow-warming stage by exposing the cells to an atmosphere having a temperature of less than 30° C., and once the cells have obtained the transition temperature, subsequently further warming the cells from the transition temperature by exposing the cells to a temperature of at least 32° C. in a second, rapid-warming stage. After the cells obtain the transition temperature in the first stage, the cells may be equilibrated at the transition temperature for a period of time prior to conducting the second stage warming. The method is particularly useful in warming cryopreserved cells attached to a fixed substrate. A thermal conduction device in association with the cryopreserved cells may also be used to further assist in the warming procedure.
