    • A photo scanner device including a rotary disk having a plurality of holograms thereon and arranged in at least two concentric circles with respect to the axis of rotation of the disk, and a light source which generates a beam of light which is incident on the disk at a selected radial distance which may be varied so as to illuminate the holograms arranged on a selected concentric circle. The holograms on the same concentric circle each subtend the same angle from the axis, and the holograms on different concentric circles subtend different angles from the axis, thereby permitting the angle of scan to be switched by selection of the radial distance at which the beam of light is incident.

    • The present invention provides a light scanning apparatus including a semiconductor laser as its light source, a hologram disk having a plurality of equidistant linear gratings of hologram arranged in the form of a circle, which is driven to rotate at constant speed in a predetermined direction, a first optical system for leading the light from the laser to be incident upon one of the gratings, and a second optical system for leading the light diffracted by said one grating to a scanning surface. In one aspect, the second optical system is so structured to maintain the scanning surface to be in conjugate relation in geometric optics with the surface of said one grating thereby allowing to keep the scan line at a desired position even if the oscillation wavelength of the light varies. In another aspect, the incident angle of the light into the one grating is varied in accordance with the oscillation wavelength of the light so as to maintain a constant diffracted angle.

    • In an electrostatic copying machine, a light source radiates an elongated, narrow beam of light onto an original document which is moved perpendicular to the beam of light for scanning. A plurality of imaging optical fibers are arranged in a row extending coextensively parallel to the light beam, which focus images of adjacent portions of the document onto a photoconductive member which is moved in a manner conjugate to the original document for scanningly forming an image of the document on the photoconductive member. The imaging optical fibers themselves extend parallel or at an angle to the document. First and second reflectors which may be mirrors or prisms are disposed between the document and imaging optical fibers and between the imaging optical fibers and the photoconductive member respectively to deflect the optical paths of the images. The light source may comprise a lamp and illuminating optical fibers which transmit light from the lamp onto the reflector disposed between the document and imaging optical fibers from which the light is reflected onto the document, thereby protecting the imaging optical fibers from heat damage.

    • An optical delay element including a photonic crystal line defect optical waveguide is disclosed that has a large group refractive index and has small or nearly constant wavelength dispersion of the group refractive index in a wide wavelength region for practical use. The optical delay element includes a line defect optical waveguide formed in a photonic crystal structure, and the volume of the line defect optical waveguide is less than the volume of a single line defect optical waveguide. Thereby, the waveguide band of the line defect optical waveguide has two zero points in the third order dispersion curve of the line defect optical waveguide, and the sign of the third order dispersion curve is inverted near the zero points. Therefore, the waveguide band of the line defect optical waveguide is modified, and this enables expansion of the wavelength region having a large group refractive index, small wavelength dispersion of the group refractive index, and small wavelength dispersion of the speed of optical pulses.
