    • A zero or low insertion force socket coupling mechanism is actuated by rotation of a flat blade screwdriver or other like tool. The actuation device includes a receptacle in the shape of the arabic letter “S.” Placing the blade of the screwdriver in the receptacle and rotating the screwdriver moves the upper portion of the apparatus relative to the lower portion to line up the pins with the sockets. The shape of the receptacle enables the force created by the twisting motion of the screwdriver to be placed on the sides of the receptacle by the sides of the blade, rather than the ends of the blade, which could damage the molded plastic component. As a result, the actuation device avoids the waste of space of convention lever actuated devices. Moreover, the actuation device enables the use of a commonly available tool to actuate the coupling mechanism.

    • An electrical connector assembly includes a housing, a receptacle and a receptacle contact. The housing has an interior chamber between a cable end and an interface of the housing. The interface is configured to receive a mating end of a mating electrical connector. The receptacle contact is disposed within a slot of the receptacle and is configured to engage a corresponding contact in the mating electrical connector. The receptacle contact is pivotally mounted in the receptacle and configured to pivot about a pitch axis and along the slot of the receptacle to align with the corresponding contact in the mating electrical connector. Optionally, the receptacle is mounted so as to pivot in the interior chamber and is configured to pivot about a yaw axis within the interior chamber over a predetermined limited range of travel to align the receptacle contact with the corresponding contact in the mating electrical connector.

    • An interchangeable impedance tuner for use in an electrical connector has been provided. The tuner is formed of a dielectric material different than air. The interchangeable impedance tuner may include a plurality of dielectric isolation ribs, wherein a dielectric rib is positioned between two adjacent signal and/or ground contacts. The tuner may also include at least one impedance adjusting metal insert and at least one insert receptacle for slidably receiving the impedance adjusting metal insert. Each impedance adjusting metal insert is oriented parallel to a portion of the contacts. Further, each impedance adjusting metal insert overlaps a portion of one of the differential pairs. A shell covering the housing and the tuner. The shell opens to allow removal of the tuner is also provided. Upon removal of one tuner, a different tuner, having different impedance controlling characteristics may be positioned within the cavity of the electrical connector.

    • An electrical connector assembly including an insulated receptacle housing, an electrical plug, and a ground shield is provided. Plug contacts within the electrical plug engage receptacle contacts within the receptacle housing. The ground shield includes top, bottom and side walls that at least partially enclose the receptacle housing and has an opening in the front face through which the electrical plug is inserted.
