摘要： To provide an aqueous dispersion of a vinylidene fluoride (VdF) copolymer which can be prepared by emulsion-polymerizing VdF monomer with a reactive emulsifying agent and is excellent in stability against sedimentation because an average particle size of the copolymer is as small as not more than 200 nm and a solid content is as high as from 30 to 60% by weight; an aqueous dispersion of a VdF seed polymer which can be prepared by seed-polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of particles obtained by emulsion-polymerizing VdF monomer with a reactive emulsifying agent and is excellent in stability against sedimentation because an average particle size of the seed polymer is as small as not more than 250 nm and a solid content is as high as from 30 to 60% by weight; and processes for preparation thereof.

The method shows a high polymerization rate, and suppresses formation of sticking polymerization materials after production of a polymer product. The method includes aqueous dispersion polymerization of a fluoroolefin in the presence of a compound (1) represented by formula (1): wherein R1 and R2 are the same as or different from each other, and each represent a C4 to C12 non-fluorinated saturated hydrocarbon group; and M is an alkali metal, an ammonium salt, or an amine salt.

The production method is the method for producing an aqueous dispersion of fluorine-containing seed polymer particles and assures a low foamability and gives an excellent gloss of an obtained coating film and excellent adhesion to a substrate when the fluorine-containing seed polymer particles are used as a coating film forming component of a coating composition.
