    • An image-taking apparatus includes: a CCD having an imaging surface; and an image-taking optical system having an objective lens. The apparatus further includes: a shake detector that detects a shake of the image-taking apparatus; and a correction lens disposed between the objective lens and the CCD and moving in parallel with the imaging surface to correct a blur in an image formed on the imaging surface caused by the shake of the image-taking apparatus. The apparatus further includes: an electromagnet disposed behind the CCD and driving the correction lens; a power transmission system that moves the correction lens by transmitting power from the electromagnet to the correction lens; and a correction-lens controller that causes, based on a detection result from the shake detector, the electromagnet to drive the correction lens such that an image whose blur due to the shake is corrected is formed on the imaging surface.

    • An imaging device unit comprises a CCD chip and a substrate on which the CCD chip is soldered. A light receiving surface is provided in the front surface of the CCD chip. A dustproof member for protect the light receiving surface from dust is attached around the light receiving surface. Chip terminals are arranged between the light receiving surface and the dustproof member. When the CCD chip is pressed against the rear surface of the substrate, the dustproof member is elastically deformed and tightly makes contact with the substrate. Since ultrasound is applied to the chip terminals and the substrate terminals in this state to melt them, the CCD chip is positioned in parallel with the substrate. Upon stopping ultrasound horns, both of the terminals are immediately soldered to each other, so that the CCD chip is securely fixed on the substrate with ease.

    • A digital still camera includes an image pickup device positioned on a lens optical axis. A camera body has a substantially tubular shape, contains the image pickup device, and has a peripheral surface disposed to surround the lens optical axis. A flexible display unit of an organic ELD has a sheet form, is changeable between a widely spread state and a protecting state for protection, and displays an image when widely spread. The display unit is bent on and about the peripheral surface when in the protecting state. Furthermore, a light entrance opening is formed in the camera body. A photographing optical system includes an objective optical element, namely an achromatic prism, positioned inside the light entrance opening. The display unit is opposed to a front side of the light entrance opening when in the protecting state.

    • A focal-plane shutter base for use in a camera includes a base plate having a shutter opening. Two sets of blades, each of which consists of a plurality of sheets for blocking light, are mounted on the base plate at one side of the shutter opening. The blades are covered by a cover plate connected to the base plate. Driving members for driving the blades are supported on shafts connected to the base plate. The base plate has a shield portion extending along the outer periphery thereof for preventing unwanted light from entering from the sides of the base plate, and a frame portion surrounding the shutter opening for blocking unwanted light from reaching the shutter opening and for structurally reinforcing the base plate. The base plate, shafts, shield portion and frame portion are all integrally molded from plastic.
