    • A method of fabricating a controlled and uniform cell size blotter roll for blotting liquid images consisting of toner particles and carrier liquid. The method includes the step of mixing a first grade of salt having first particles of a first uniform size with a polymer material so as to form a first mixture. The method next includes a step of extruding the first mixture to form an extruded sleeve having intimately compacted polymer material and salt particles, an outer surface, and an inner surface defining a hollow interior. The method then includes curing the extruded sleeve until rigid and dry; abrading the outer surface and the inner surface of the extruded sleeve so as to remove any extrusion induced skin layer and to increase a number of open cells on each surface; applying an adhesive layer onto the abraded outer surface; forming a surface layer by coating the adhesive layer with powder particles of a second mixture consisting of a polymer material and a second grade of salt having second particles of a second, uniform size substantially less than the uniform size of the particles of the first grade of salt; leeching the particles of the first and the second grades of salt from the surface layer, and from the extruded sleeve, in order to form a conformable, compound open cell foam sleeve having controlled uniform cells and the desired hollow interior; and inserting into the desired hollow interior a rigid core having connections for connecting to a vacuum system.

    • A process for fabricating a substrate includes the steps of (a) immersing a molding article having an electrically conductive molding surface in an electrodeposition liquid comprising polymer particles and a nucleating material; (b) electrodepositing a coating on the molding article; and (c) coalescing the coating to form a substrate containing the nucleating material. The process may further include exposing the substrate to an electroless metal plating bath to form a metal layer on the substrate. A process for fabricating an electrostatographic imaging member includes electrolessly depositing metal on a substrate. A process for fabricating a belt comprises electrolessly depositing metal on an endless substrate. An electrostatographic imaging member comprises a substrate including polymer and nucleating material and a metal layer. An endless belt includes polymer and nucleating material.

    • Polymer films are formed by electrocodeposition of solutions containing a dispersion of charged particles of a first polymer and charged particles of a second polymer. Microheterogeneous films are obtained having micro-domains of a minor component polymer dispersed in the major component polymer. Processes for preparing dispersions for electrocodeposition are also provided In a first process, two polymers are dissolved in a common solvent and then dispersed as small charged particles in another solvent which is a precipitant for both polymers. In another process, a dispersion of a first polymer is prepared by adding a solution of the first polymer to a dispersant solvent, and then a solution of a second polymer is dispersed in the dispersion of the first polymer. In another process, a solution of the second polymer is added to a dispersion of the first polymer which contains only a single non-solvent for the second polymer. In yet another process, a dispersion of the first polymer in a first solvent system is mixed directly with a dispersion of a second polymer in a second solvent system, resulting in a dispersion of the first and second polymers in a resulting solvent system of the first and second solvent systems. In yet another process, a block copolymer composed of two blocks is dissolved in a solvent, and then dispersed in a non-solvent to form the dispersion.
