    • A V-type, multicylinder internal combustion engine with multiple isolated crank chambers formed by partitioning a space inside of a crankcase with multiple support walls for supporting a crankshaft, and multiple oil outlet holes, respectively communicating with the isolated crank chambers to separately discharge oil from the multiple isolated crank chambers, uses a single scavenging pump to discharge the oil from the isolated crank chambers rather than connecting multiple scavenging pumps, respectively, to the oil outlet holes. The engine includes an oil collecting pan mounted on a bottom wall of a crank chamber covering the multiple oil outlet holes respectively communicating with the multiple isolated crank chambers for collecting the oil passed through the oil outlet holes. The oil collecting pan has an oil reservoir with an oil outlet opening, and a single scavenging pump for drawing the oil stored in the oil collecting pan through the oil outlet opening.

    • An odd-cylinder V-type internal combustion engine including 2n+1 cylinders (n is a natural number) arranged in two banks and pistons fitted in the cylinders has a crankshaft provided with n common crankpins (KC) each connected to the two paired pistons respectively belonging to the two banks, and one odd crankpin (KS) connected to the one unpaired piston. The common crankpins (KC) are disposed at the same phase. Bank angle &thgr; between the two banks meets &thgr;=cos−1(½n).     • A receiver for a spread spectrum communication system includes an acquiring circuit that periodically acquires a plurality of signals received via a plurality of paths from a transmitter. The receiver also includes a plurality of tracking circuits that track the synchronization of a predetermined number of signals among the plurality of signals acquired by the acquiring circuit. The receiver additionally includes a judging circuit that judges whether present and past propagation conditions of the predetermined signals tracked by the plurality of tracking circuits are good or bad. A selecting circuit is included in the receiver to select the predetermined number of signals from the plurality of signals acquired by the acquiring circuit, based upon the present and past propagation conditions of the signals judged by the judging circuit, to allow the plurality of tracking circuits to track the predetermined number of signals selected by the selecting circuit.
