    • An external combustion engine including a rotary motor equipped with non-sliding vanes but conformable to the shapes of the envelopes within which they are contained and forced to operate and a combustion member comprising a sleeve in which a piston is free to reciprocate. The two end closures of the sleeve and the piston ends cooperate to form combustion chambers at both ends of the piston strokes. The motor compresses air for admission in the combustion chambers where fuel is burned and is also used for expanding the combusted gas resulting from the fuel combustion. The gas expansion produces more energy than is required to compress the air. The energy difference constitutes the energy yielded by the engine in the form of shaft power. The air admission, the combusted gas exhaust from the combustion member, the fuel injection and ignition are all timely controlled by the piston motion. The air compression and the gas expansion may be performed by a different set of vanes, but may also be performed by the same set of blades, depending upon the manner in which the motor is constructed. In one motor configuration, rigid blades are articulated to allow the blade conforming, whereas blades are flexibly constructed in another alternate motor configuration, to the same end.

    • A fluid driving or fluid driven machine includes an outer cylinder housing stationary piston. The piston includes a generally annular flexible band of smaller circumference than the inner circumference of the cylinder, and a rotary body accommodated within the band. The rotary body has three rollers for urging the band against the inner surface of the cylinder at three angularly spaced locations so that the band defines with the cylinder three working chambers. Two separating members mounted on the cylinder are biased into contact with the band.When the rotary body is rotated the band makes nonslip contact with the wall and rotates the working chambers about the axis of the rotary body. Each separating member separates each working chamber as it passes into two discrete enclosures. A port is located on each side of each separating member to allow communication with the two discrete enclosures. The machine can be operated as a compressor when the rotary body is driven or as an engine to drive the rotary body.

The pump ring (14) has at least one recess (47) for accommodating at least part of the clamping element (114), said recess (47) being dimensioned such that in each rotational position of the eccentric (18) at least in some portions a distance (48) between the radially inner side (50) of the clamping element (114) and the pump ring (14) is provided.

    • A rotary piston machine has a cylinder provided with two ends to form a stator with inlet and outlet apertures, and a piston having a rotor eccentrically mounted within the stator. A vane is connected to the rotor by a hinge and forms an expanding and contracting chamber as the piston rotates. The piston is provided with a sealing means sufficient to restrict movement of gaseous/fluid matter between chambers during operation. The sealing means includes a flexible seal member with a mating lip positioned adjacent to the vane hinge. Each revolution of the eccentrically mounted piston causes the seal member to contact an inner cylinder wall to prevent the escape of displaced gaseous/fluid matter past the vane hinge. The flexible seal member contacts the cylinder wall and bends to form a lip seal resistive to the direction of pressurization.

    • The fluid motor, e.g. a liquid meter, a mixing apparatus or a turbine, has a chamber (1) with a rotor having stiff blades (7) which at their outer ends are provided with plate formed wings (8) of elastomeric material.
