    • A combustion engine that has at least a plurality of power strokes during a complete cycle of engine operation that is of compact packaging and Brayton cycle operable. In a preferred embodiment, a piston-cylinder arrangement used to compress air and deliver it to a combustion chamber where it is combusted along with fuel. The combustion gases are returned back to the piston-cylinder arrangement where they act on the piston to output power in a power stroke. A second power stroke can be implemented where additional combustion gases are available to extract additional power from. In a preferred embodiment, the same piston-cylinder arrangement receives the additional combustion gases from the combustion chamber in the second power stroke.

    • An orbiting blade rotary machine, especially for use in compressor and expansion motor units, includes a stator housing bounding an internal space that includes a substantially cylindrical internal chamber centered on a central axis. A power shaft extends in a centered relationship along the central axis through the internal space, being mounted on the stator housing for rotation about the central axis. Each of a plurality of orbiting blades extends substantially radially outwardly from the power shaft in the internal chamber toward the stator housing in its neutral position, being supported on the power shaft for pivoting within a limited angular range around the neutral position. An eccentric rotor is mounted in the stator housing for rotation about an eccentric axis parallel to and transversely offset from the central axis, being accommodated in the internal chamber to delimit a working space that the orbiting blades subdivide into individual compartments. Cylindrical guide members received between stationary connecting bars guide the orbiting blades within their axially and radially extending passages for sliding relative to the eccentric rotor while performing the limited pivoting relative to the power shaft. The auxiliary gear train includes a crown gear rigid with the eccentric rotor, an auxiliary shaft mounted in the housing for rotation about an axis parallel to and transversely offset from the central axis, a first and a second auxiliary spur gear secured to the auxiliary shaft for joint rotation therewith, the first auxiliary spur gear being in permanent meshing relationship with the crown gear, and another spur gear secured to the power shaft for joint rotation therewith and permanently meshing with the second auxiliary spur gear. A labyrinth seal may be provided at least on a marginal portion of each of the orbiting blades that is remote from the power shaft to seal the corresponding interface, and a pressurized sealing fluid may be supplied to it through channels present in the respective blade.

    • An engine is disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the engine comprises a compressor, and combustor, and an expander. The compressor compresses ambient air. The combustor bums the compressed air, and produces exhaust gasses. The expander receives the exhaust gases from the combustor, and expands the exhaust gasses. The compressor may be a gerotor compressor or a piston compressor having variable-dead-volume control. The expander may be a gerotor expander or a piston expander having variable-dead-volume control. In another embodiment, an engine comprises a piston compressor, a combustor, a piston expander, and a pressure tank. The piston compressor compresses ambient air. The combustor bums the compressed air, and produces exhaust gasses. The piston expander receives the exhaust gasses from the combustor, and expands the exhaust gasses. The pressure tank receives and stores the compressed air from the compressor. In another embodiment, a gerotor compressor or a gerotor expander comprises an inner gerotor, and an outer gerotor. The inner gerotor and the outer gerotor are driven so that they do not touch. The gerotors may be cantilevered or non-cantilevered.

    • A sliding-blade vapor engine has a vortex boiler, condenser, blower and oval-shaped expander and pump chambers with cylindrical expander and pump rotors rotatably mounted eccentrically therein. Each rotor has at least two rectangular blades slidably mounted in slots extending through the cylindrical rotor in mutually perpendicular relation and each blade is independently movable relative to the other in a radial direction. Each blade has a guide element extending from opposed sides and through the opposed end walls of the respective rotor which are slidably received in guide grooves in the respective chamber end walls. The rotors are connected together by shafts in concentric relation whereby rotation of the expander rotor causes simultaneous rotation of the pump rotor and the guide elements traveling in the guide grooves cause the blades to extend and retract radially with their outer ends following the inner periphery of the respective chamber side wall with a constant minimum clearance. The expander rotor is rotated by a working medium from the vortex boiler which causes rotation of the pump rotor. Rotation of the pump rotor draws liquid from a condenser into the pump chamber, compresses it, and discharges it. The discharged liquid enters the vortex boiler, is heated, evaporated, enters the expander chamber, and is discharged back into the condenser. The sliding-blade expander may also be powered by all qualities of geothermal fluids and operate as a motor to drive an electric generator.
