    • The invention concerns a steel material which consists of a steel having the following chemical composition in weigh-%: 1.0-1.9 C, 0.5-2.0 Si, 0.1-1.5 Mn, 4.0-5.5 Cr, 2.5-4.0 (Mo+W/2), however max 1.0 W, 2.0-4.5 (V+Nb/2), however max 1.0. Nb, balance iron and impurities in normal amounts in the form of residual elements from the manufacturing of the steel, and with a microstructure, which in the hardened and tempered condition of the steel contains 5-12 vol-% MC-carbides, at least about 80 vol-% of the carbides having a size which is larger than 3 &mgr;m but smaller than 25 &mgr;m preferably smaller than 20 &mgr;m, and, prior to tempering, 0.50-0.70 weight-% carbon, which is dissolved in the martensite in the hardened condition of the steel. The material is intended for cold work tools, in the first place for homogenous rolls for cold rolling of meta, strips.

    • The invention relates to a powder metallurgically manufactured steel with a chemical composition containing, in % by weight: 0.01-2 C, 0.6-10 N, 0.01-3.0 Si, 0.01-10.0 Mn, 16-30 Cr, 0.01-5 Ni, 0.01-5.0 (Mo+W/2), 0.01-9 Co, max. 0.5 S and 0.5-14 (V+Nb/2), where the contents of N on the one hand and of (V+Nb/2) on the other hand are balanced in relation to each other such that the contents of these elements are within an area that is defined by the coordinates A′, B′, G, H, A′, where the coordinates of [N, (V+Nb/2)] are: A: [0.6,0.5]; B′: [1.6,0.5]; G: [9.8,14.0]; H: [2.6,14.0], and max. 7 of (Ti+Zr+Al), balance essentially only iron and impurities at normal amounts. The steel is intended to be used in the manufacturing of tools for injection moulding, compression moulding and extrusion of components of plastics, and for tools for cold working, which are exposed to corrosion. The invention also relates to construction components such as injection nozzles for engines, wear parts, pump parts, bearing components etc. Yet another field of application is the use of the steel alloy for the manufacturing of knives for food industry.

    • A powder metallurgy manufactured high speed steel with a high content of nitrogen in the form of a body formed through consolidation of alloyed metal power has the chemical composition in weight-% ; 1-25 C, 1-3.5 N, 0.05-1.7 Mn, 0.05-1.2 Si, 3-6 Cr, 2-5 Mo, 0.05-5W, 6.2-1.7 (V+2 Nb), balance iron and unavoidable impurities in normal amounts, wherein the amount of, on one hand, the carbon equivalent, Ceq, expressed as formula (I), and, on the other hand, the vanadium equivalent, Veq, expressed as Veq=V+2 Nb, are balanced relative to each other such that the amounts of said elements, express in term of said equivalent, will lie within the area A1-B1-C1-D1-A1 in the system of co-ordinates in the figure, in which the Ceq/Veq-co-ordinates of the points A1-D1 are A1: 4.5/17; B1: 5.5/17; C1: 2.5/6.2; D1; 1.5/6.2. The structure of the steel in the hardened and tempered condition, contains 12-40 vol-% of hard matter consisting of particles of MX-type, which are evenly distributed in the matrix of the steel, where M in said hard matter of MX-type essentially consists of vanadium and/or niobium, and X consists of 30-50 weight-% carbon and 50-70 weight-% nitrogen.
