    • A liquid crystal display device includes an array substrate, a counter substrate and a liquid crystal layer having liquid crystal molecules interposed therebetween. The liquid crystal molecules are aligned in a direction normal to a surface of the substrates under a condition where no electrical voltage is supplied between a picture electrode and a counter electrode. An alignment control device is provided at the counter substrate and configured to control the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules under a condition where an electric field is applied between the picture electrode and the counter electrode. A scanning line crossing a pixel is divided into first and second segments. The array substrate includes a connecting element to connect the first and second segments opposite the alignment control device.

    • In one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate. The first substrate includes a switching element, a first electrode, a second electrode electrically connected with the switching element and facing the first electrode. In the second electrode, a plurality of slits in a V shape is formed along a first direction. The first and second substrates include first and second alignment films, respectively. The slit in the V shape includes a central portion, a first end connected with one end of the first central portion, a second end connected with the other end of the first central portion, a second central portion, a third end connected with one end of the second central portion, and a fourth end connected with the other end of the second central portion. The first end and the third end are connected each other.

    • In one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a plurality of pixel electrodes arranged in a matrix of rows and columns on a first substrate. A plurality of counter electrodes extend along the pixel electrodes in the row direction. Each of the counter electrodes includes a first counter electrode opposing to the plurality of pixel electrodes through a first insulating layer and a second counter electrode opposing to the first counter electrode through a second insulating layer. The first counter electrode is electrically connected with the second counter electrode through a contact hole formed in the second insulating layer. The wiring resistance of the second counter electrode is smaller than that of the first counter electrode.
