    • A digital transmission system is disclosed having a transmitter and a receiver for transmitting and receiving a digital audio signal. The digital audio signal is in the form of samples of a specific wordlength and occurring at a specific sampling rate. The transmitter including an input terminal for receiving the digital audio signal and for receiving a first information word having a relationship with the specific wordlength and a second information word having a relationship with the specific sampling rate. A formatting unit is present far combining the digital audio signal and the first and second information words into a serial datastream suitable for transmission via a transmission medium. The wordlength of the samples in the digital audio signal, expressed in number of bits, being equal to n, where n is an integer larger than zero, and the sampling rate is equal to 2p.Fs, where p is an integer larger than zero and Fs is equal to a frequency value taken from a group of at least two frequency values, said group of frequency values including 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz.The receiver comprises a sample rate converter for converting the sampling rate of the signal received.

    • A device has a first operational state for writing information onto a record carrier and a second operational state for reading information from a record carrier. The device includes a phase-locked loop for generating a clock signal from a reference signal and a control unit for generating a pulsed transducer control signal in response to an information signal and the clock signal. The device also includes a generating transducer for generating physically detectable patterns in the record carrier in response to the transducer control signal and a read transducer for generating a read signal in response to physically detectable patterns in the record carrier in the second operational state that includes a radiation source. The device further includes a power supply which supplies the radiation source with an electric power. The phase-locked loop includes a memory for memorizing, in the first operational state, a memory value which is a measure of the supplied clock signal. In the second operational state, the phase-locked loop generates the clock signal in response to the memorized memory value and causes a high-frequency modulation in the electric power supplied by the power supply.

    • A power supply circuit in which the mains voltage which is applied across the primary winding (2) of a transformer (1) to generate a first direct voltage across a first capacitor (C.sub.1) by means of a secondary winding (3) and a first rectifier (D.sub.1) and a second direct voltage is generated across a second capacitor (C.sub.2) by means of a tertiary winding (4) and a second rectifier (D.sub.2). If the mains voltage is not connected, a first direct voltage is supplied by a battery (15) connected in parallel with the first capacitor (C.sub.1). The second direct voltage then is generated from the battery voltage of the battery (15) by means of an inverter circuit (20), a transistor (T.sub.1), the secondary winding (3) and the the tertiary winding (4).

    • A switching device is provided for suppressing a signal. A signal source is connected to a first differential amplifier. The first differential amplifier receives an operating current from a current source. A second differential amplifier receives an operating current from a current source, and has an input connected to a common signal terminal. A conversion circuit connects the first differential amplifier and second differential amplifier outputs. An output amplifier is connected to the conversion circuit output for amplifying a single ended output of the conversion circuit. A signal from the output amplifier is suppressed by switching the operating current of said first differential amplifier and said output amplifier off, while simultaneously switching the operating current of the second differential amplifier on.
