    • The minimum transmit battery voltage (Vtx min) of a radio operating in a TDMA mode of operation or the stand-by battery voltage (Vstd-by) of the radio operating in a GSM mode of operation can be determined as a function of the combination of an in-slot transmit battery voltage (Vin-slot), an out-of-slot transmit battery voltage (Vout-slot), a stand-by compensation factor (&Dgr;sb), and a compensation factor (K). The stand-by compensation factor (&Dgr;sb) is related to a difference between the out-of-slot transmit battery voltage (Vout-slot) and a stand-by battery voltage (Vstd-by). The compensation factor (K) has a first value for the TDMA mode of operation and a second value for the GSM mode of operation. Each value of compensation factor (K) is related to the manner in which the radio utilizes battery power during transmission in the TDMA or GSM modes of operation.

    • A welding helmet includes a shutter assembly with an electronically controlled liquid crystal shutter in a compact housing for physical mounting near the face area of a protective shell. The electronic controls provide for the customary auto-darkening function as well as two user selectable fixed shade settings which permit the user to fix the shutter shade in one of a plurality of preselected and factory set shade settings. When fixed at a shade setting, the user is given a visual indication that the helmet is not in an auto-darkening mode. The housing allows for two PC boards to be mounted above and below the optical shutter, with a flexible cable interconnecting the two PC boards so as to not interfere with or obscure the user's vision. The controls are all single function, readily accessible and continuous so that multiple operation of any one control does not switch the associated function off, allowing a user to continuously operate any control repeatedly to ensure its selection. As the electronics and shutter are self contained in a single housing, ready assembly and field change out are accommodated.

    • The present invention is a toy for amusement. The toy is comprised of a cardboard-like panel with one or more spherical toy balls, commonly known as "floating eyeballs," Jet Balls.TM. or Glide Balls.TM., affixed to the panel which bears human, insect, animal, or creature-like facial features on both its front and back surfaces. The panel can be hingedly connected to a book or other card-like device such that when the panel is turned over or opened, a new panel bearing different facial features appears. The panel and floating eyeballs together make an entertaining three-dimensional facial representation that can be controlled by the user to create a visual effect in which the floating eyeballs move about in a manner similar to human-like eye movement. Another embodiment shows a daytime calendar having the floating eyeballs protruding through the top page of the calendar.
