    • A thermal dryer for drying granular resin immediately prior to its introduction into a molding machine or other resin processing apparatus comprises a vertically oriented cylindrical drying chamber with means to introduce granular resin at its top, the resin flowing down through the chamber and out into the processing apparatus; a rectangular tubular member defines an air passage around the drying chamber, with communication from the top of the drying chamber to the air passage. An enclosed electrical heater and a blower are mounted in a housing encompassing the tubular member and the drying chamber; the blower pulls air through an inlet port into the housing to pass over the blower and its motor, into the heater enclosure and out through an air discharge tube into the bottom part of the drying chamber, out the top of the drying chamber into the air passage, and then through the blower to an outlet port. The drying chamber and air passage are extended into the resin processing apparatus so that gases from that apparatus are drawn directly into the air passage, to be exhausted through the blower.

    • This invention relates to a kiln for drying timber comprising:an elongated housing having a base, two side walls and a top wall and two end walls defining a timber treatment zone;a gas circulation passageway having a top passageway portion extending over said timber treatment zone, a side passageway portion extending down one side of said timber treatment zone, a treatment passageway portion extending through said timber treatment zone, and a side passageway portion extending up the other side of said timber treatment zone merging with said top passageway portion, each said side wall being sloped whereby each of said side passageway portions is broad at the top of the kiln and narrower at the bottom of the kiln thereby to provide a substantially even rate of flow of gases at various levels within said treatment zone; and,reversible gas circulation means within said top passageway for maintaining the circulation of treatment gas in said other direction through said gas passageway thereby the direction of gas flowing through said treatment zone may be reversed.

    • An apparatus for drying particulate material includes an elongate housing having a chamber therein. A drum is positioned in the housing and has opposite ends thereof extending through open ends of the housing. The drum is mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis. The exterior surface of the drum and the interior surface of the housing are spaced apart and form an annular space adapted for flow of heating medium therealong. An inlet opens into the annular space and is directed for introducing heating medium in a generally tangential direction relative to the annular space such that the heating medium flows in a generally vortex manner along the length of the annular space to the outlet. A tube is positioned in the drum and extends along a major portion of the length of the drum. The tube is in flow communication with the annular space for receiving heating medium therefrom. The heating medium flows along the tube for heating the particulate material in the drum and the heating medium in the tube is discharged into the interior of the drum for direct contact with the particulate material and further heating thereof. The material to be dried is introduced into one end of the drum and discharged from the other end of the drum after drying.

    • Apparatus for heating the recirculated air from a web dryer in such a manner that the recirculated air does not come in direct contact with the flame of the burner in which the fuel and air for combustion are mixed and burned. Because the solvent-laden recirculated air does not come in contact with the flame, alteration or partial incineration of the hydrocarbons does not occur. When printing inks are formulated with non-photochemically reactive solvents and used in conjunction with the present apparatus, other methods of solvent collection are available for air pollution control instead of energy-consuming incineration (thermal or catalytic); and in some cases no control method is required. The present apparatus provides an area for the complete combustion of the fuel/air mixture from the burner before leaving the containment tube and mixing with the recirculated air.
