    • A system and method is described for measuring fuel consumption by combustion engines operated in a manner wherein one component of fuel is used for the process of combustion itself and another complementary component of that same fuel is employed within a recirculation path for the purpose of cooling functions, for example, the cooling of fuel injectors. A fuel combiner is incorporated within the fuel delivery system having an output at the suction side of a fuel pump. One input to this fuel combiner is recirculated fuel, while the opposite input is make-up fuel from the fuel tank. The method and system employs a fluid meter which measures the flow of make-up fuel at the input to the combiner. Return or recirculating fuel is cooled and degassed with a gas phase separator in a preferred embodiment. Additionally, a thermally based flow meter provides for enhanced accuracies with the system and method.

    • A high pressure fuel/air injection system for an outboard motor having a V-cylinder arrangement wherein the major components of the air/fuel supply system are disposed in the valley between the cylinder banks. The system includes an vapor fuel separator that has a fuel chamber in which the supply of fuel is maintained by a float valve and an air chamber positioned above the fuel chamber and to one side of it and which communicates with the fuel chamber through a perforated member. A filter media fills the air chamber and an atmospheric air inlet is provided to the air chamber. Fuel pressure and fuel regulator valves are disposed in the area to the side of the air chamber and regulate fuel and air pressure by dumping fuel and air back to the fuel and air chambers, respectively, through integral internal conduits. The regulating system includes an arrangement for regulating the fuel pressure so that it will be at least greater than the air pressure by a predetermined amount and also for precluding the delivery of air under pressure if fuel under pressure is not supplied. The arrangement also incorporates a system for insuring that fuel cannot flow out of the atmospheric air inlet if the outboard motor is tilted up or is laid on its sides. An additional air supply is provided for the air compressor in the event the air chamber becomes clogged or inadequate to supply the air requirements for the system.

    • An integral fuel line for use in a fuel injection type of fuel distribution system for motor vehicles includes an innermost tube defining a high pressure line, an intermediate tube defining a low pressure line, and an outer tube defining a vapor recovery line. The innermost tube has a first passage for delivering fuel from a storage tank to an engine cylinder of a motor vehicle. The intermediate tube is spaced from and surrounds the innermost tube to form a second passage therebetween for returning the unused portion of fuel back to the storage tank. The outer tube is spaced from and surrounds the inatermediate tube to form a third passage therebetween for returning vaporized and evaporated fuel back to the storage tank.

    • An assembly for a fuel injection system for use with an internal combustion engine, comprises a fuel injection system component and a plurality of injectors mounted on the component. The component comprises a plurality of air passages for supplying air into the engine, a plurality of injector seats and a fuel passage communicating with the injector seats. Each injector has a vapor discharge passage communicating with the inside of the injector and with the fuel passage, and/or has a filter inserted in the fuel passage so that fuel vapor in the injector is smoothly discharged from the injector into the fuel passage, thereby preventing vapor lock of the injector system.
