    • A double booted flexible entry boot provides a fluid-tight fitting between a wall of a fluid containment region and a conduit passing through the wall. An inner seal member is disposed within the containment region, the inner seal member having a substantially planar seal portion and an integral first hollow support sleeve concentric with the seal portion and extending axially into the containment region. A mechanism is provided for rigidifying the seal portion of the inner seal member. A mechanism releasably attaches the first hollow support sleeve to the conduit. An outer seal member is disposed outside of the containment region, the outer seal member having a substantially planar seal portion and an integral second hollow support sleeve concentric with the seal portion and extending axially away from the containment region. A mechanism is provided for rigidifying the seal portion of the outer seal member. The first and second support sleeves have a degree of flexibility sufficient to allow for the insertion of the conduit at angles not necessarily normal to the fluid containment wall. A mechanism releasably attaches the second hollow support sleeve to the conduit. A mechanism, carried by the rigidified seal portion of the outer seal member and adapted to extend axially through the wall and the rigidified seal portion of the inner seal member, releasably attaches the inner seal member to the wall of the containment region. The inner seal member may be repaired or replaced without substantial outside fluid invading the containment region.

    • Past connector assemblies have failed to provide adequate amounts of the air/cooling liquid mixture from the heat exchanger to the surge tank for proper air venting. The present invention overcomes this and other problems by providing a connector assembly 48 which is easily installed within a tank portion 14 of the heat exchanger 12. The connector assembly 48 includes a tubular member 50 which has a cylindrical portion 54 and a bifurcated end portion 56. The bifurcated end portion 56 has a rectangular outer shape 66 which is designed so that it can be squeezed into a rectangular shaped opening 44 in the tank portion 14. A nut 92 which has an inner threaded portion 104 is threaded onto an outer threaded portion 64 of the cylindrical portion 54 until a pair of tabs 76,78 on the bifurcated end portion 56 are securely seated against an inner surface 16 of the tank portion 14. A washer 110 is seated against an annular beaded seat 36 to form a first seal. An o-ring 112 is seated within an inner annular groove 108 of the nut 92 to form a second seal. The tubular member 50 has an internal bore 52 which has a diameter greater than 0.256 inches/7 mm for communicating the proper amount of air/cooling liquid mixture to the surge tank (not shown) so that adequate air venting occurs.

    • A sealing system for heat exchangers of the type having a plurality of vertically positioned heat tubes extending through a heat tube sheet for exchanging heat between the interior of the plurality of heat tubes to the surrounding atmosphere, the sealing system including a first outer ring having a wall portion, terminating in an upper face, and defining an annular space between the lower end portion of the outer ring and the heat tube and tube sheet; a high nickel metal inner ring, positioned within the annular space surrounding the heat tube and resting on the tube sheet; a soft metal casing partially housing the high nickel inner ring so that when force is applied downward on the first outer ring, the annular space is reduced sufficiently to force the high nickel ring and the soft metal casing into a sealing relationship between the heat tube and the tube sheet, while allowing for vertical movement of the heat tube; the outer ring further defining a means to prevent the high nickel ring and the soft metal casing to be crushed by the downwardly applied force; and a pressure collar surrounding the sealing system for applying the force to effect the seal between the heat tube and tube sheet. There is further provided a secondary seal of packing material positioned between the first outer ring and the wall of the heat tube.

The sleeve adapter (S) optionally comprises a circumferential flange (16) adjacent the second face of the hub (2) which prevents liquid from seeping through the structural member (18).

    • A feedthrough fitting for sealing around at least one conduit extending longitudinally through a cutout in wall at a transverse spacing from an inner surface of the cutout has an elastomeric one-piece seal having a pair of longitudinally oppositely directed faces, an outer surface corresponding generally to the inner surface, at least one longitudinally throughgoing passage extending between the faces and to the conduit, and at least one lateral split extending completely longitudinally between the faces and completely laterally from the passage to the outer surface. Thus the seal can be spread at the split to fit around the conduit. A respective end plate covers generally all of each of the faces and is formed of a plurality of separate sections together forming a hole corresponding to and longitudinally aligned with the passage. The sections of each pair are formed to a lateral side of the passage generally opposite the split with interfitting substantially part-circular edges and meet laterally at opposite edges to the opposite lateral side of the passage. Fasteners engaging longitudinally through the two plates and seal longitudinally compress the seal and force the outer surface against the inner surface. Thus the fitting can be opened at the split with the plates and fasteners in place by elastic deformation of the seal at the interfitting surfaces and pivoting of the sections of the plates of each plurality of plates relative to each other at the part-circular edges.
