    • A landing gear for semitrailers includes a two-speed single reduction gear assembly having fewer, smaller, and simpler parts, resulting in a compact single reduction gear assembly and cost efficient landing gear unit with a unique clutch-shifting mechanism to provide for shifting from one ratio to another. The single reduction gear assembly is disposed on and about vertically offset input and output shafts further resulting in an easy to crank and shift landing gear unit capable of achieving standard crank handle turn to vertical leg travel distance ratios. The low gear or low speed ratio of the landing gear unit can be varied within a broad range during manufacture, if desired, generally without increasing the overall size or complexity of the two-speed single reduction gear assembly. The landing gear can further include a universal mounting feature and is durable and simple to use.

    • The jack comprises a tubular primary screw (10) provided with an outer screw thread and an inner screw thread having opposite thread hands, a secondary screw (11) cooperative with the inner screw thread and having an end (11a) articulated to a fixed point, a nut (9) fixed in rotation and connected to move in translation with the element to be adjusted and cooperative with the outer screw thread, a speed reducer associated with a motor (M) for driving the primary screw (10) in rotation, and means for preventing a rotation of the speed reducer (13) relative to the nut (9). These means comprise an articulated compass structure (18) having two branches (18a, 18b) articulated together. One of the branches is also articulated to the speed reducer (13) while the other branch is articulated to a part (9) of the jack which is fixed in rotation. The compass structure (18) considerably reduces the friction and improves the efficiency of the jack.

    • A control system for a surveillance vehicle (V) is disclosed. The vehicle includes a rapid deployment and retraction mechanism (A') and a jack system (B') for continuously maintaining a detection device (28) a top a mast (12) within a prescribed vertical condition when extended. The control system includes a jack leveling logic circuit (C), a jack pressure control circuit (D), a ram control circuit (E), and a mast control circuit (F). Ram control circuit (E) controls a ram (52, 54, 56) which deploys and retracts mast (12). Jack pressure control circuit (D) senses the pressure on jacks (142a, 142b, 142d) at the four corners of the vehicle. Jack leveling logic circuit (C) receives pressure signals representing the pressure on the jacks and controls extension and retraction of the jacks in pairs at diagonal corners to maintain the vehicle within prescribed leveling conditions and to prevent the over extension or over adjustment under certain unleveling conditions. Mast control circuit (F) receives a signal representing the level condition of the vehicle so that the mast is extended and retracted only under prescribed leveling conditions.

    • A stabilizing jack for mounting beneath a recreational vehicle such as a trailer or self-contained motorized unit, the jack having a pair of legs pivotably mounted beneath the vehicle and extending in opposite directions from each other when retained in a normal horizontal position. The legs are moved downwardly into a stabilizing position beneath the vehicle with an equal force on both of the legs so that both of the legs strike the ground before further force is applied to either leg as, for example, when the vehicle is stabilized on uneven terrain. The upper parts of the legs are mounted for sliding movement within a housing and a cylinder connected to the upper portions and movably mounted therebetween forces the leg upper portions apart so that the lower portions of the legs extend downwardly to the ground. The jack can be used to raise the vehicle off its suspension as well as stabilize the vehicle.
