    • A liveload assembly having a stack guide with a thread on the exterior side wall, a plurality of compressible belleville washers stacked inside the stack guide, and a retainer cap having a thread on an inner side wall for matingly engaging with the stack guide to hold the belleville washers in compression. The gland follower of a fluid flow apparatus is liveloaded by placing the liveload assembly over the bolt extending upwardly from the gland follower. A nut is threaded on the bolt to contact the stack of belleville washers and the retainer cap is unscrewed to a second position on the stack guide and fixed by turning a set screw through a bore in the cap and against the side of the stack guide. Compression of the gland follower is monitored by viewing the relative movement of the stack of belleville washers through a longitudinal slot in the side wall.

    • A sealing device for a reciprocating pump of the type having a pump housing provided with a bore formed therein. The bore is provided at its one end with an opening through which it communicates with the exterior of the pump housing while the other end of the bore receives a reciprocating member such as a plunger. The sealing device includes a seal case received in the bore and having a bore through which the reciprocating member extends, a sealing member such as a packing held on the inner periphery of the seal case and having an inner peripheral surface adapted to be slidingly contacted by the outer peripheral surface of the reciprocating member, a closure separate from the pump housing and removably attached to the pump housing so as to close the opening on the one end of the bore, and a coiled compression spring loaded between the closure and either one of the seal case and the sealing member.

    • A sealing ring device is provided for a fluid valve having a piston (2) reciprocating within a cylinder (1), wherein the piston (2) includes a valve cone (2c) adapted to contact a valve seat (11). In order to seal the inner space of the cylinder (1) located behind the piston (2) from an inlet/outlet passageway (A), a resilient sealing ring (5) is disposed in an annular groove (4) opening into the cylinder (1) around the rear end (2a) of the piston (2). A press ring (7), which extends above the rear end (2a) of the piston (2), contains the sealing ring (5) in the annular groove (4). A spring element (8) rests on the press ring (7). A piston rod (3) is guided in slidable manner through the piston (2). A stop (9) is attached to the rod (3) above the rear end (2a) and opposite the top side of the spring element (8). Downward movement of the rod (3) past the end position of piston (2) causes the stop (9) to compress the spring element (8), and the resulting force is transferred by the press ring (7) to the sealing ring (5) to expand the sealing ring (5) against the piston (2) and the cylinder (1).

    • A high pressure sealing system is disposed between a housing and a reciprocating member. One version has a reciprocating plunger and in another version is a reciprocating piston associated with a free floating piston. In the one embodiment, the reciprocating plunger is directed through a housing that includes spaced spring biased seal assemblies each including a wedge member that is spring biased against a continuously circumferentially formed seal ring having an inner radial seal surface sealing the reciprocating plunger and an axial seal surface that in one case is sealed against the housing and in another case is sealed with respect to an intermediate seal carrier with a cavity defining a buffer space and which carries two static o-ring seal members for sealing against the housing and another seal ring that has an inside radial seal surface in engagement with the piston and an axial surface in sealing engagement with a cylinder; each seal ring a convoluted surface to prevent it from pinching between the relatively reciprocating member and housing. The piston in the other embodiment is further associated with a floating piston having an oil cavity on one side thereof and a gas chamber on the other side thereof and the floating piston carries a pair of spaced seal assemblies each including a spring biased wedge and a continuous annular seal ring of the type previously described that seals with respect to a seal support rib on the floating piston and a housing member that surrounds the floating piston.
