摘要： An electrical hand-held device is provided with improved proximity detection, which can be placed on a surface and has at least one transmission electrode, at least one reception electrode and at least one compensation electrode arranged between transmission electrode and reception electrode. The transmission electrode and the compensation electrode can be supplied with an electric switching signal of predetermined signal frequency and predetermined signal amplitude. Switching electric signal at the compensation electrode is phase-delayed with respect to the switching electric signal at the transmission electrode. Alternating electric fields radiated at the transmission electrode and the compensation electrode generate a current in the reception electrode, which is representative of an approach of a hand to the hand-held device. The transmission electrode and the reception electrode are arranged in such a way, that the impedance between the transmission electrode and the reception electrode exceeds a predetermined value, which is suitable to keep the current generated in the reception electrode under a predetermined value.

In one embodiment, an electromagnetic write-head magnetically excites a molecule with an alternating magnetic field. A magneto-resistive sensor measures the resonant response of the magnetically excited molecule. The biosensing device comprises a heating element using a power and being suitable for providing thermal denaturation of target DNA and/or RNA bioparticles, a sample holder adapted for receiving a biocompatible substrate having a functionalized surface which is coated with probe DNA and/or RNA whereto target DNA and/or RNA duplexes can be attached, the sample holder further being adapted for exposing the biocompatible substrate at one side to the heating element, a first temperature sensing element for sensing a temperature at the side where the biocompatible substrate can be exposed to the heating element and a second temperature sensing element for sensing a temperature at the side opposite thereto with respect to the biocompatible substrate. The device also comprises a processing means programmed for calculating at least one heat transfer resistivity value based on temperature values obtained with the first temperature sensing element and the second temperature sensing element and the power for the heating element, for deriving a characteristic of the target DNA and/or RNA bioparticles from said heat transfer resistivity value.

摘要： Apparatuses and systems for emulating electrical characteristics of a material having a known dielectric constant or property are disclosed for standardizing and calibrating of electromagnetic devices. The emulator apparatus can include an electrically non-conductive layer having a dielectric constant less than the material dielectric constant and an electrically conductive layer adjacent the non-conductive layer. Artificial dielectrics for emulating the dielectric constant of a material are also disclosed including a substrate matrix having a dielectric constant less than the material dielectric constant and an additive combined with the substrate, the additive having a dielectric constant higher than the material dielectric constant. Artificial dielectrics may simulate the frequency response of a material relating to a specific property.
