    • A roller bearing assembly having an outer case (1) which contains an elastically yieldable sleeve 2 in which is enclosed a thin elastically yieldable ring 3 whose inner surface acts as a raceway for rollers or needles (6) carried by the cage (7). The elastic ring has a plurality of angularly spaced apart regions discontinuities (4a, 4b) defining pre-stressed regions adapted to ensure, by a radial deformation, a localized gripping of the rollers or needles under the action of the sleeve when the roller bearing assembly is mounted on a shaft (8). The outer case (1), the sleeve (2), the roller bearing ring (3) and the cage (7) have an openable structure which permit their spreading being apart to an open for ensuring the mounting of the roller bearing assembly by a lateral engagement of its component parts on the shaft without ends of insertion thereon from either each of the shaft.

    • A device for automatically adjusting the clearances in a roller bearing due to thermal expansion, constituting a tapered roller bearing having a dual track oppositely tapered inner race and a pair of single track tapered outer races, each outer race being in communication with a pair of coaxial, hydraulically loaded annular pistons, each of which translates in annular piston cylinders, supplied with hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic pressure of the fluid is maintained through an accumulator at a preselectable constant pressure to permit the outer races to translate axially, against the annular piston, as the inner race expands radially due to thermal expansion. Upon thermal contraction, the pressure forces the annular pistons axially toward the outer races, which, due to the taper of the races and the bearing elements, reduces the clearance created due to the thermal contraction.

    • A mechanism for distributing axial thrust loads acting on a rotating shaft,ncluding dual thrust bearing assemblies concentrically mounted on the rotating shaft for transmitting axial thrust loads to the thrust load distributing mechanism. The thrust load distributing mechanism includes a stationary support member having at least one fulcrum to provide a reaction force to counterbalance the axial thrust loads acting on the rotating shaft, an annular load lever cooperating with each of the at least one fulcrum, at least two thrust transfer members cooperating with first and second segments on the annular load lever and the dual thrust bearing assemblies, and a force transmitting means. In the preferred embodiment two annular load levers are centered on first and second fulcrums, respectively, and each thrust bearing assembly transmits one half the axial thrust loads alternately through, respectively, a first thrust member, or second and third thrust members and the force transmitting means, to first and second segments of the apposite annular load lever such that the axial thrust loads are transmitted to the apposite annular load lever equidistantly with respect to the apposite fulcrum and the reaction force produced in the fulcrum counterbalances the axial thrust load acting on the rotating shaft.
