A gear transmission drives a selected one of the paper web guide rolls, which may be a drying cylinder, in a first group of rolls. The felt or wire is wrapped around a second group of rolls comprising felt or wire guide rolls. The one felt or wire guide roll located nearest the gear transmission is connected to the shaft of a drive gear of the gear transmission via a belt drive connection. Thus, rotation of the drive gear of the gear transmission via the gear transmission drives the one selected driven roll of the first group, and via the belt drive connection drives the driven felt or wire guide roll.

    • A sorter for paper pulp suspension including a rotationally symmetrical wire cage and a rotor supporting a plurality of vanes for rotating about the interior of the cage for moving suspension through the wire cage, the vanes being non-uniformly spaced. An annular pulp chamber surrounds the screen for collecting the pulp. A suspension outlet at the bottom of the pulp chamber receives the pulp from the pulp chamber. The pulp chamber extends axially beyond the lower end of the wire cage. An annular damping chamber surrounds the lower end of the pulp chamber and flow from the pulp chamber to the pulp outlet is past the damping chamber. The damping chamber develops a pool of the suspension in it. A pressurized gas cushion above the pool of suspension in the damping chamber controls the level thereof and damps the motion of the pulp in the pulp chamber.

    • The invention concerns a flotation apparatus for separating impurities, such as printing ink, or the like, from a fiber suspension that has been formed from waste paper. The apparatus includes a container for flotation of the suspension. A drive shaft extends into the container, either from above or below. A feed opening for suspension is defined at the bottom of the container. On the drive shaft is a pump impeller for impelling suspension into the container and downstream along the drive shaft. From the pump impeller there is a rotor located on the drive shaft for dispersing air that is introduced to the container by an air feed conduit which emits air into the region of the rotor. The drive shaft itself may serve as the air feed conduit and it may have air outlets at either or both of the pump impeller and the rotor. A foam withdrawal means for withdrawing the foam of impurities generated in the flotation apparatus has an inlet positioned at the axis of the cylinder which is at the axis of the rotor.

    • A headbox for a papermaking machine with an outlet slot that distributes pulp suspension over the, working width of the papermaking machine. For controlling operating parameters of throughput, pulp density and fiber quality of the suspension over the width of the machine, the headbox has a plurality of individual sections across the width of the machine. Each section has respective channels therethrough for passing pulp suspension. At least one connection at each section is to a controllable supply of pulp suspension where the operating parameters of that supply are controllable. Only separate operating parameter controlled streams pass through the sections of the headbox. Operating parameter control devices may deliver adjusted streams to a mixer upstream of the headbox channels. The mixer may also have individual sections across the width of the machine. The headbox has a common outlet nozzle downstream of the individual channels and the individual sections, where the pulp suspension stream from channels with controlled suspension parameters and from any channels without controlled suspension parameters are reconstituted to have the desired suspension operating parameters.
