    • The invention concerns a flotation apparatus for separating impurities, such as printing ink, or the like, from a fiber suspension that has been formed from waste paper. The apparatus includes a container for flotation of the suspension. A drive shaft extends into the container, either from above or below. A feed opening for suspension is defined at the bottom of the container. On the drive shaft is a pump impeller for impelling suspension into the container and downstream along the drive shaft. From the pump impeller there is a rotor located on the drive shaft for dispersing air that is introduced to the container by an air feed conduit which emits air into the region of the rotor. The drive shaft itself may serve as the air feed conduit and it may have air outlets at either or both of the pump impeller and the rotor. A foam withdrawal means for withdrawing the foam of impurities generated in the flotation apparatus has an inlet positioned at the axis of the cylinder which is at the axis of the rotor.

    • Aeration flotation bar comprising a shaft mounted in a tank for rotation about a vertical axis and having a plurality of wedge configured bar members. Air through the shaft is distributed lengthwise through each wedge bar member simultaneously and from each wedge bar member is emitted as a fine jet through multiple jet bores formed in the trailing surface of the wedge bars. The fine air jets create a large mass of fine air bubbles which in the aggregate provide more surface for material such as coal or other flotable materials to adhere to thereby increasing the reclamation output of the tank or cell and increasing the efficiency of the tank or cell. In addition, the location of the fine jets are such that the fine air jet streams act on the area of the tank or cell where sanding is most likely to occur and thus eliminate or minimize the sanding tendency.

    • The invention relates to a method of using a flotation machine that is used in metallurgical processes and to a flotation machine. The flotation machine foams hydrophobic particles from an aqueous slurry that contains these particles. The flotation machine includes a flotation cell (1), and a rotor (2) that is inside the flotation cell. The rotor (2) is rotated at a mixing power, which maintains the suspension in the slurry and mixing of air with the slurry to form the foam, and the mixing power is controlled by adjusting the rotation speed of the rotor. The amount of solid matter S accumulated on the bottom of the cell (1) is determined, and the rotation speed of the rotor (2) is adjusted on the basis of the determined amount of solid matter. The flotation machine includes a measuring device (5) for determining the amount of solid matter accumulated on the bottom of the cell. The adjusting device (4) is arranged to adjust the rotation speed of the motor (3), which rotates the rotor (2), on the basis of the measuring result of the measuring device (5) to remove the solid matter from the bottom of the cell.

    • A froth flotation method and apparatus for extracting a valuable substance from a slurry comprising a mixture of solid phase, liquid phase and said substance. A gas dispersing mechanism (4) feeds gas into the slurry (1) in a flotation vessel (2) to infuse gas bubbles into the slurry. The slurry is agitated in the flotation vessel (2) for dispersing the gas bubbles into the slurry. The gas bubbles capture the valuable substance from the slurry and form a froth phase F above the slurry phase S. The froth phase F exits the vessel by overflow. Continuously moving negative pressure zones (7) are mechanically generated by rake blades (9) in the froth phase (F). The negative pressure zones (7) extend from the froth phase (F) to the slurry phase (S). The negative pressure zones (7) capture unwanted slurry and liquid pockets (8) entrained from the slurry phase to the froth phase (F) and form paths for guiding said unwanted slurry and liquid pockets (8) via said paths from the froth phase (F) downwardly back to the slurry phase (S).
