    • An object of the present invention is to provide a cathodluminescent apparatus, which is capable of adjusting brightness and which is less expensive and economical, and a phosphor powder for the same. The apparatus comprises: a line electron gun having a line cathode and an intermediate electrode, which is capable of extracting electrons from the line cathode, of linearly focusing electrons extracted and of reciprocatively scanning electrons focused; an anode for accelerating electrons emitted from the line electron gun, the anode having an electric conductive section formed on a substrate; a phosphor screen being made of phosphor particles on the electric conductive section; and a container being evacuated to a vacuum for cathodluminescence. The phosphor powder suitably used for the above-described cathodluminescent apparatus should be composed of primary particles of Y.sub.2 O.sub.2 S polycrystal which are almost spherical with their surfaces formed rough.

    • There is provided a correcting coil of a deflection yoke wherein a correcting coil is brought into close and wide contact with a neck portion of a bobbin 1 of the deflection yoke by slightly altering the correcting coil which is used at present to further improve magnetic permeability and hence the amount of correction of magnetic lines of force. Correcting coil 11A of the deflection yoke includes a hollow correcting coil bobbin 13 on the outer periphery of which a coil 12 is wound and a core 14 configured into a U-shape by superimposing respective ends of two L-shaped core members made by laminating thin magnetic pieces 15 inside the correcting coil bobbin. A magnetic correcting piece 16 is provided which has a wider area and which makes contact with a neck portion 3 of the bobbin 1 of the deflection yoke 10 on the tip end of each leg part of said U-shaped core 14.

    • A deflection yoke for use with cathode ray tubes of the type in which one or more electron beams generated therein are deflected includes a magnetic core member and a selected wire winding thereon to produce a magnetic field for deflecting the beam. Each core has a winding axis defined thereon and each winding occurs along at least one segment having a given length along the winding axis. Each segment has a first end and an opposed second end and a middle portion defined therebetween. The winding pattern of each winding in accordance with the invention begins in the central portion of each segment and includes a first toroidal winding portion starting at this midpoint and extending in a first handed direction to a first segment end. The winding pattern includes an intermediate transition portion which extends from the first segment end to the second segment end. The winding pattern continues with a second toroidal winding portion extending from the second segment and to the middle starting point. It has now been discovered that by providing a conductive wire winding on the ferrite core which follows a helical path about a winding axis along the core, and which follows a winding pattern beginning in the middle portion of each winding segment and which is laid up to intentionally include certain wire crossovers, an improved CRT display raster characterized by reduced distortion and reduced ringing is provided.

    • An electron gun for a cathode ray tube (CRT) includes a cathode, a low voltage beam forming region (BFR), and a high voltage deflection focus lens disposed in the beam deflection region of the CRT's yoke for simultaneous focusing and deflection of the electron beam on the CRT's display screen. The deflection lens includes a first electrode either in the form of a cylindrical metal grid or a conductive coating disposed on the inner surface of the CRT's neck portion and extending into the magnetic deflection field. The deflection lens further includes a second electrode disposed either on or immediately adjacent to the inner surface of the CRT's frusto-conical funnel portion intermediate the magnetic deflection yoke and the CRT's display screen. By positioning the CRT's focus lens within the deflection field, the deflection center of the beam is disposed within the focal point of the focus lens permitting the focus lens to operate as a deflection lens to not only focus the beam, but also increase beam deflection sensitivity. The coincidence of the beam focus and deflection regions reduces beam "throw distance" (field-free zone) resulting in a corresponding reduction in beam magnification and space charge effect and improved beam spot on the CRT's display screen. Positioning a focus electrode on the CRT's neck or funnel portion increases the equivalent diameter of the main focus lens which reduces the lens spherical aberration effect on the beam, while co-locating the beam focus and deflection regions also allows for shorter CRT length.

    • A multiple frequency horizontal scan system includes a scan frequency compensation system which detects horizontal scan frequency changes by frequency detecting the horizontal sync pulses. A frequency responsive switching system couples the appropriate reactive components to the horizontal defection yoke and horizontal output transformer in response to sync pulse frequency. The system further supplies alternative voltages for the scan system operating supply in response to horizontal sync pulse frequency. In addition, the system provides a convenient source of frequency dependent switching signal which may be utilized to operate additional auxiliary elements in response to changes of horizontal scan system frequency.
