    • The invention relates to a method of gluing substrates which are hydrophobic and oleophobic as a result of having been treated earlier using a fluorinated compound, said substrates being intended for packaging. The inventive method consists in applying an adhesive to at least one of the substrates, said adhesive comprising: a) 5 to 50 weight percent of at least one styrenic block copolymer (preferably, 15 to 30%); b) 20 to 60 weight percent of at least one tackifying resin which is compatible with the non-styrene phase (preferably, 35 to 55%); c) 0 to 20 weight percent of at least one tackifying resin which is compatible with the styrene phase and, (preferably, 5 to 15%); d) 5 to 25 weight percent of at least one thermofusible wax (preferably, 10 to 17%); e) 3 to 20 weight percent of liquid plasticisers which are normally used in thermofusible adhesives; and/or f) additives. In this way, said mixture presents the following characteristics: (i) a viscosity of between 400 and 3000 mPa.s at 170° C. (preferably, between 700 and 1400 mPa.s); and (ii) a softening point included between 75 and 120° C.

    • This invention relates to a carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex for utilization in bonding carpet piles to carpet backing. By utilizing this improved latex, it is possible to attain improved wet-adhesion, a stronger tuft bind and improved delamination resistance. These improved properties are attained by including a rosin acid soap in the carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex. This invention more specifically discloses a carpet latex compound which is comprised of (a) a carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex, (b) a filler, (c) a thickener and (d) optionally, a curative; wherein said carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex is comprised of (i) water, (ii) a carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubber, (iii) an emulsifier and (iv) a rosin acid soap. The subject invention further discloses a process for manufacturing carpet which comprises the steps of (1) coating one side of a backing with a carpet latex compound to produce a latex-coated backing, wherein the carpet latex compound is comprised of (a) a carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex, (b) a filler, (c) a thickener and (d) optionally, a curative, and wherein said carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex is comprised of (i) water, (ii) a carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubber, (iii) an emulsifier and (iv) a rosin acid soap; (2) bringing a pile into contact with the coated side of the latex-coated backing and (3) allowing the carpet latex compound to dry while keeping the pile in contact with the coated side of the latex-coated backing to produce the carpet.

    • Disclosed are hot-melt adhesive compositions suitable for the manufacture of soft goods. They have a melt viscosity of 60,000 mPa.s or less at a temperature of 120.degree. C. and include: (a) 50 to 150 parts by weight of a styrenic block copolymer or mixtures and/or modified and/or hydrogenated derivatives thereof; (b) 20 to 450 parts by weight of a tackifying resin which, when incorporated into a reference composition, leads to the following properties:a tan .delta. value of 3.5 or less, wherein tan .delta. is defined as the ratio between the loss modulus and the storage modulus of said composition andan elastic retention on spandex fibers (300%) or natural latex rubber (200%) after 4 h at 40.degree. C. or less.Further disclosed are novel partially hydrogenated hydrocarbon resins which are useful as tackifying resins and have the following properties: (a) a R&B softening point (R&B) of 50.degree.
