    • A device for holding freight is composed of two containers, which are connected to each other by at least two connecting elements. The area where the containers are connected to each other is sealed off from the environment by at least one sealing element. Each container has a closable access opening at the end which faces the other container. The sealing element extends around the area of the outside edges of the two facing ends of the containers. The connecting element is installed on the containers in such a way that, when the containers are not connected to each other, an external contour of the connecting element is essentially in an interior position with respect to the external contour of the container.

    • A stainless steel, double-skin, industrial, tote tank (100) for transporting dangerous liquids between a dock and an off-shore platform having inner and out tank “skins,” with the opposing walls gapped, except for the flatly engaged, bottom walls. A low-profile 550 gallon tank design has about a four foot height, six foot length and four foot width, allowing a worker to easily view and work with a liquid level gauge and the top fill openings while merely standing next to the tank. The tank top includes a high wall around all of the operative, top elements, confining any spilled liquid, with a typically closed drain line located in the top wall extending to the side for emptying of the spilled liquid. A protectively enclosed, discharge valve line having a bottom drip pan is included at the sloped tank bottom completely within the tank wall confines with a lock-able access door.

    • A container (10) includes an upper shell (11) and a lower shell (12) attached thereto by a connection mechanism (39). Corner columns (40,61) are formed between the walls (26,28,30; 46,63,64) of the shells (11,12), respectively. Spaced ribs (42,70) extend inwardly from the walls (26,28,30; 46,63,64), respectively, to assist in supporting an internal container bottle (13). The bottle (13) has a valve assembly (59) which can be exposed through an opening (58) in the front wall (46). A valve access closure mechanism (60), including a door (143), is operable to close the opening (58). A lug (160) and notch (150) arrangement maintains the door (143) open, as desired. The bottom surface (74) of the container (10) is provided with a drainage system (76) having channels (78-81) all sloped toward a drain hole (82) so that any liquid in the container (10) is directed to the drain hole (82). Foot assemblies (14) include hollow, crushable foot members (118) of a predetermined profile. The foot members (118) are filled with a foam block (119) and have breakable tabs (104-108,110-112,114,115) which can be attached to the bottom surface (74). When a load is applied to the container (10), the tabs (104-108,110-112,114,115) will break and the foam will crush to absorb the energy and protect bottle (13). The top surface (15) of the container (10), while otherwise irregularly shaped, has flat ledges (21) near the corners thereof and of the same profile as the foot members (118) so that the container (10) can be stacked on a like container.

    • The present invention provides a nestable intermodal container for hauling materials. In one embodiment, this container includes a bottom wall; a plurality of sidewalls sloped generally outwardly from the bottom wall, the sidewalls and bottom wall defining an interior of the container, and the sidewalls having an upper perimeter defining an opening that is larger that the bottom wall; lifting members attached to at least two opposing sidewalls, each of the lifting members being adapted to engage a crane and a vertical wall of a rail car. The bottom wall, sidewalls and lifting members are desirably configured so that the container may be substantially received in another substantially similar container. In a method of the invention, a number of such containers can be used. These containers are filled at a collection site, transported to a processing site located remotely from the collection site for at least a distance on the back haul leg of a rail route and emptied at the processing site. The empty containers are nested together at the processing site so that several containers may be carried on a single rail car, and the nested containers are hauled on a minority of rail cars of a train and non-waste material is hauled on a majority of rail cars of the train back to the collection site.

    • A modular container wall unit and containment system formed therewith, each wall unit includes a central panel having wing-like side panels integrally formed on opposite sides thereof and angularly intersecting the central panel at an angle such that, when the side panels of another modular unit are affixed to the central panel of the present unit, and one or more like units are affixed to the second and third units, a chamber is formed which, when combined with a bottom panel and a top panel, defines a container. The central panel of each unit is designed to include recessed areas adapted to mate with the side panel of another modular unit to facilitate the expansion of the system to form an adjacent cell or chamber. Furthermore, the modular unit is configured to withstand lateral loads and maintain system integrity.
