    • Various methods and devices are provided for surgically treating tissue. In one embodiment, the device can include a shaft having proximal and distal ends and a conductive tip disposed within the distal end of the shaft and movable between a first and second position. In the first position, the conductive tip is disconnected from a conductive contact which is adapted to communicate with an energy source. In the second position, the conductive tip is in contact with the conductive contact such that energy can be delivered from an energy source through the conductive contact to the conductive tip. The conductive tip can have a variety of shapes and sizes, but in one exemplary embodiment, the conductive tip is a blunt tip. The conductive contact can include at least one lead extending therefrom and adapted to communicate with an energy source.

    • An adjustable trocar washer is provided to facilitate sealing an incision in skin. The adjustable trocar washer is configured for use with a trocar or cannula assembly. The adjustable trocar washer generally includes a compressible collar and a skirt formed at the distal end of the compressible collar for sealing an incision in skin. The compressible collar is longitudinally movable along an elongate tubular member associated with the trocar or cannula assembly. A latch mechanism is provided on the compressible collar to secure the collar in a compressed condition about the elongate tubular member.

    • A safety-stop device for use with a trochar which is adjustably attachable to the trochar tube to prevent inadvertent cuts being made to a patient. The safety-stop device has retention component for retaining it onto the trochar tube; a registration component for registering a pre-determined insertion point of the trochar; a stop component for preventing additional insertion of the trochar after the pre-determined insertion point has been attained; and a plurality wings with apertures on the base for securely suturing the safety-stop device to a patient by suturing through the apertures and into the patient. The base and wings are made of any thermoplastic material.

    • In order to improve a surgical protection device for a surgical sealing element of a surgical sealing system comprising a trocar, the sealing element having an insertion opening which can be widened, the protection device comprising a base member which can be arranged on the trocar or on a part thereof, is closed in a ring shape and has an opening and several protection elements which are arranged in circumferential direction and point parallel or towards a longitudinal axis of the protection device, the protection elements having free ends pointing essentially in a distal direction, such that protection of the sealing element can be as complete as possible irrespective of the degree of expansion thereof, it is suggested that at least some of the protection elements have retaining elements on an outer side at their free ends or in the area of their free ends for engagement with the sealing element.Furthermore, an improved surgical sealing system is suggested.
