    • According to the invention, an apparatus is provided for feeding a continuous plastic film from a source of supply to a plastic film processing machine such as a plastic bag making machine and the like, which includes first and second take up rolls for taking up and rewinding the plastic film. First guide means is disposed at a position in the path for directing the plastic film from the source of supply to the first take up roll via the first guide means. Second guide means is disposed downstream of the first guide means in the path for directing the plastic film from the second take up roll to the processing machine via the second guide means. The plastic films can be sandwiched between and heat cut widthwise by first heat cutting means and first receiving means, whereby the plastic film from the source of supply is connected to the plastic film to the processing machine, while the plastic film to the first take up roll is connected to the plastic film from the second take up roll. The plastic film can be sandwiched between and heat cut widthwise by the second heat cutting means and the second receiving means, whereby the plastic film from the source of supply is connected to the plastic film to the first take up roll, while the plastic film from the second take up roll is connected to the plastic film to the processing machine.

    • In apparatus for pouch forming, filling and sealing, a printed web, having registration marks at locations where transverse seals are to be formed in order to form a pouch, is fed through drive rolls; over a plow which forms a longitudinal fold in the web; around a sealing wheel having lands which the web contacts to form transverse pouch-forming seals; around a filler where product is poured into the pouches; past a top sealer and a cutoff where the pouch forming is completed and the individual pouches are severed by knives. A photoelectric scanner scans the registration marks and produces a pulse when each passes the scanner. An electric eye cooperating with a disk driven by the machine determines the position of the sealer lands. A tachometer driven by the machine produces pulses proportional to the speed of the machine. A stepping motor continuously drives the drive rolls. The outputs from the photoelectric scanner, the electric eye and the tachometer are used in association with a microprocessor for controlling the position of the registration marks with respect to the lands so as to form transverse seals on the pouches between the printed matter associated with each pouch.

    • Bags are made from an elongated synthetic-resin tube by an apparatus having an endless conveyor having a transport path extending from an upstream cutting/welding station through a stacking station and a flattening station to a downstream punching station. This conveyor has a plurality of platforms having predetermined lengths in the transport direction and spaced apart by gaps. The tube is fed continuously in the transport direction to the upstream cutting/welding station that periodically transversely cuts through the tube and simultaneously forms upstream of each cut a transversely weld for subdividing the tube into a succession of bag blanks. The stacker includes a transversely reciprocal needle bar including at least one heated blocking needle and a transversely reciprocal stripper bar. The upstream end of each bag blank is pierced by the needles as it is cut off the tube, with the downstream portion of each bag blank lying on one of the conveyor platforms. Periodically the stripper bar is moved upwardly to strip an entire stack of bag blanks off the needles. A flattening device engages each of the bag blanks as it is cut free from the tube and presses it down against the stack on the platform. A gripper carriage is displaceable and has a holding element displaceable vertically so that this holding element can press the stack down against the conveyor as the conveyor is stepped to move this stack down to a punching station.

    • In an apparatus for making plastics carrier bags from a web of tubular film of thermoplastic material, a feeding mechanism intermittently conveys the webs by one bag width and a severing mechanism cuts the web into half tubes along an undulating curve. A carriage displaceable in the machine frame transversely to the feeding direction of the web is reciprocated by a drive derived from a first rotating control cam through gearing. A cutting knife pivotable in the carriage about its longitudinal axis passes through the plane of the tube about an axis perpendicular thereto and is so controlled by an oscillating drive derived from a second rotating control cam that its edge is substantially tangential to the undulating curve at the cutting point. A detour assembly retards one of the half tubes to bring the bag side edge zones into phase and each half tube is formed into bags by a transverse sever-sealing device.
