CONSTITUTION: A knee airbag apparatus comprises an airbag housing(20), an airbag cushion(10), and a guider(80). The airbag housing is arranged in the location lower than the height of a knee in an instrument panel(1). The airbag cushion is unfold to the upper side of the outside of the instrument panel and arranged between the passenger's knee and the instrument panel. The guider is arranged in the airbag housing. The guider guides the airbag cushion of the instrument panel by being rotated by an unfolding force of the airbag cushion.

    • An airbag module (30) comprises an airbag (50) and a tether (52) having a first end (56) of the tether (52) secured to and movable with a portion (58) of the airbag during inflation of the airbag (50). A housing (40) houses the airbag (50) and an inflator (60). The housing (40) has a vent (144) through which inflation gas supplied by the inflator (60) can be selectively diverted from inflating the airbag (50) by moving a door (82) that seals the vent (144) away from the vent (144). A housing member (170) has a passageway (150) through which the tether (52) moves during inflation of the airbag (50). A first end (56) of the tether (52) is located on one side of the housing member (170). The tether has a second end (54) that is disposed on an opposite side of the housing member (170). A tether length control mechanism (80) is movable from a disengaged position to an engaged position during airbag inflation for stopping movement of the tether (52) through the passageway (150) in the housing member (170) and hence limiting movement of that portion (58) of the airbag (50) secured to the first end (56) of the tether (52).
