    • PURPOSE: A self-healing apparatus and method of an optical receiver are provided to prevent a transfer rate determining error by considering a DC level variation value according a temperature change in an optical receiver in determining a transfer rate of an inputted optical signal. CONSTITUTION: A photoelectric converter(100) converts an input optical signal into an electric reception signal. An amplifier(200) amplifies the reception signal outputted from the photoelectric converter(100). A transfer rate discriminating unit(300) outputs a delay signal by delaying the amplified reception signal for a predetermined time and a recognition signal obtained by exclusively ANDing the reception signal. A clock/data reproducing unit(400) receives the reception signal, reproduces a clock and a data according to a reference clock and outputs them. A transfer rate signal generator(500) provides the reference clock in response to the transfer rate conversion signal. A signal stabilizing unit(600) filters a lock signal outputted from the clock/data reproducing unit(400) and outputs it to a controller. A temperature sensing unit(700) outputs an internal temperature sensing signal of the optical receiver. The controller(800) determines a transfer rate according to a voltage level change value according to a previously stored temperature on the basis of the internal temperature of the optical receiver and a voltage level of the recognition signal outputted from the transfer rate discriminating unit(300), and outputs the pre-set transfer rate conversion signal.

    • PURPOSE: An optical buffer using a cell pointer is provided to execute high-speed processing for an ATM cell compressed in a high-speed network structure by optically extracting a cell pointer using a TOAD(Terahertz Optical Asymmetric Demultiplexer) and controlling internal switches in an optical buffer eliminating inter-cell collision. CONSTITUTION: An optical buffer using a cell pointer consists of a 1*N AWG demultiplexer(11), TOADs(12-1-12-4), circulators(13-1-13-4), 1*2 switches(14-1-14-3), and an optical coupler(16-1-16-3). The 1*N AWG demultiplexer(11) splits a wavelength inputted on an identical time axis from the input port of the optical buffer. The TOADs(12-1-12-4) are provided with SOAs(Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers) to detect the cell pointer of the split wavelength at a high speed. The circulators(13-1-13-4) circulate the data detected from the TOADs(12-1-12-4). The 1*2 switches(14-1-14-3), executing switching according to the existence of the detected cell pointer, directly output the data inputted from the TOADs(12-1-12-4) or output the data after delaying by a T cycle through delay lines(15-1-15-3). The optical coupler(16-1-16-3) combines and outputs the directly outputted or delay-outputted data of the 1*2 switches(14-1-14-3) and the data extracted from the TOADs(12-1-12-4).

    • An optical passband filter having a frequency transition that is several of orders or magnitude narrower than prior optical filters includes two frequency routing devices. The first frequency routing device has one input for receiving the input signal and at least N outputs, where N corresponds to the number of frequencies that compose the input signal. The N outputs of the first frequency routing device are each coupled to inputs of a second frequency routing device. The outputs of the second frequency device each correspond to one of the selected output frequency bands into which the input signal is to be divided. A multiplexed input signal containing several different frequency channels is divided into bands that are each directed to respective outputs of the second frequency routing device. The frequency transition between the various bands may be as small s the frequency resolution between adjacent outputs of the first frequency routing device.
