    • A laser light source apparatus comprises a semiconductor light-emitting device to be excited by a current so as to effect spontaneous emission and stimulated emission; reflecting means disposed at a position opposed to a first light-emitting end face of said semiconductor light-emitting device by way of said semiconductor light-emitting device, said reflecting means reflecting light generated by said semiconductor light-emitting device so as to make thus reflected light travel through said semiconductor light-emitting device again; an optical waveguide for receiving and guiding the light emitted by said first light-emitting end face, said optical waveguide comprising a reflecting area which selectively reflects a part of the light emitted from said first light-emitting end face of said semiconductor light-emitting device, a core of said reflecting area comprising a first diffraction grating disposed in a first area, refractive index of said first diffraction grating changing periodically along an optical-axis direction, and said first diffraction grating selectively reflecting within a first wavelength range a part of the light emitted from said first light-emitting end face of said semiconductor light-emitting device; and period changing means for changing a grating period of change in refractive index along the optical-axis direction in said first diffraction grating, wherein said semiconductor light-emitting device, said reflecting means and said diffraction grating constitute a laser resonator. Further, an OTDR apparatus comprises such a laser light source apparatus.

    • PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating wavelength tunable external cavity laser is provided to increase the degree of integration by integrating an optical amplifier, a comb shaped reflector, an optical modulator on a single substrate into a successive waveguide. CONSTITUTION: An optical amplifier(130), a comb shaped reflector(140), and an optical signal processor(150) are offered to a first substrate. An external wavelength tunable reflector(220) connected to the optical amplifier is offered to a second substrate contiguous to the first substrate. The comb shaped reflector includes a wave guide offered to the first substrate and a first diffraction lattice offered to one end of the wave guide which is contiguous to the optical amplifier. The comb shaped reflector includes a second diffraction grating offered to the other end of the wave guide which is contiguous to the optical signal processor The optical amplifier, the comb shaped reflector, and the optical signal processor constitute a successive wave guide.
