    • A nickel-metal hydride secondary battery including a double casing is provided to protect electrode plates from strong impacts and to reduce gas generation in the battery. The nickel-metal hydride secondary battery(100) comprises: an inner casing(120) in which a cathode plate(130) and an anode plate(150) are received; a linking member(180,190) for linking a plurality of the inner casings in parallel with each other; an electrode terminal connection plate(160) for connecting each of the cathode terminal and the anode terminal of the inner casings connected in parallel with each other with a final electrode terminal(170) having the corresponding polarity and exposed to the exterior; and an outer casing(110) for housing the inner casings along with an electrolyte while the electrode terminal is exposed to the exterior.

    • A separator material is in the form of a nonwoven fabric made of extra-fine short fibers of polyolefin having a fineness of less than 0.5 dtex and short fibers of another polyolefin, the latter including polyolefin heat-bondable short fibers, the nonwoven fabric being formed by bonding fibers constituted by flattening at least part of the polyolefin heat-bondable short fibers, followed by sulfonation, the specific surface area of the nonwoven fabric satisfying the range of from 0.6 m2/g to 1.5 m2/g, the following ranges being also satisfied. (1) In the nonwoven fabric, the ratio (S/C) E of the number of carbon atoms (C) to the number of sulfur atoms (S), measured by electron spectroscopy (ESCA), is in the range of from 5x10-3 to 60x10-3. (2) In the nonwoven fabric, the ratio (S/C)B of the number of carbon atoms (C) to the number of sulfur atoms (S), measured by flask combustion method, is in the range of from 2.5x10-3 to 7x10-3. (3) The ratio [(S/C) E/(S/C)B] (sulfonation depth) of (S/C)E to(S/C) B is in the range of from 1.5 to 12, thereby providing a separator material ensuring high self-discharge performance when charge and discharge are repeated and high battery incorporation operation efficiency and high short-circuit resistance; a method of producing the same; and an alkali secondary battery separator.
