    • PURPOSE: A discharge tube of a planar illumination device having a single discharge path and a method for fabricating the discharge tube are provided to fabricate a plurality of tubes used as a light source such as back light in an integrated manner and to allow the tubes to form a single discharge path. CONSTITUTION: A discharge tube of a planar illumination device includes a lower part(200), an upper part(250), and a sealing member. The lower part is constructed in a manner that a plurality of glass barriers(201-213) are arranged on a tetragonal glass plate, being perpendicular to the plate. The barriers divide the inner space of the discharge tube into a plurality of small regions that form a single discharge path. Parts of the barriers are formed along three sides of the glass plate and the remaining side of the glass plate is opened. The upper part of the discharge tube has the size and shape similar to the size and shape of the glass plate of the lower part. The upper part comes into contact with the top surfaces of all the barriers when the upper part is mounted on the barriers. The sealing member seals up the opened part.

A light source body is mounted on an upper surface of the second mold.
