    • The present invention relates to an ultraviolet generation lamp which comprises the following' an upper substrate including a cathode electrode on the inside, and an emitter electrically connected to the lower side of the cathode electrode; a lower substrate facing and combined with the upper substrate, and including a fluorescent substance layer formed on the surface where the lower substrate is facing the upper substrate and an anode electrode located on the lower side of the fluorescent substance layer; and a spacer vacuum-sealing the lamp by supporting the upper and lower substrates. The ultraviolet generation lamp generates ultraviolet rays by applying specific voltage in between the cathode electrode and the anode electrode, and colliding electrons generated from the emitter and the fluorescent substance layer for causing excitation before being transferred to the bottom condition. The present invention also provides an ultraviolet generation sterilizer comprising the ultraviolet generation lamp.

    • A hot cathode surface light source and a backlight unit having the same are provided to enhance light emitting efficiency by using a thermal electron emission effect of a hot cathode. A surface light source apparatus includes a light source body(110) and an internal electrode. The light source body includes a plurality of discharge channels(120) which are formed in a sealed discharge space. The internal electrode is formed to apply a voltage to the discharge channels. The internal electrode is electrically connected through a bottom surface of the light source body to the outside. The internal electrode is formed with a hot cathode(150). The hot cathode is electrically connected through a lead line to the outside of the light source body. The lead line includes a thermal expansion buffering material.

    • A lamp, a method of driving the lamp, a backlight assembly having the lamp, and a liquid crystal display (LCD) device having the backlight assembly are disclosed. The lamp includes a tube that contains gas and first through fourth electrodes. The first and second electrodes are disposed in the tube adjacent to first and second ends of the tube. The third and fourth electrodes are disposed at the first and second ends of the tube. Voltages applied to the electrodes are sufficient for light to be emitted throughout the lamp. The first and second voltages, third and fourth voltages, first and third voltages, and second and fourth voltages have different polarities while the first and fourth voltages and the second and third voltages have the same polarity.
