    • The present invention relates to a method (and corresponding system) of reducing fuel consumption in a diesel engine (300) when operating at less than full power, the method comprising the step of: adjusting (101) a viscosity of a system oil (301) from the engine (300) resulting in a modified system oil (301'), where the viscosity is adjusted so that the mechanical efficiency of the engine (300) is increased when the modified system oil (301') is provided to the engine (300) and wherein the step of adjusting is done on the basis at least one parameter representing an actual load of the engine (300) and a viscosity parameter of the system oil (301). In this way, the mechanical efficiency of the engine when operating at less than full speed/at partial speed is increased. This reduces the fuel consumption of a diesel engine and reduces the emissions of a diesel engine.

    • A method of monitoring the states of lubrication oil is provided to measure water content, viscosity and contamination level of the lubrication oil by various sensors for diagnosing management decisions according to management regulations by using equations for analyzing water content, and viscosity to output the measurements obtained by sensors. A method of monitoring the state of the lubrication oil comprises the steps of: injecting the lubrication oil into an oil tank from a lubricant pipe by driving an oil pump; circulating the lubrication oil multiple times within a lubricant monitoring device for accurate detection of the state of the inlet lubrication oil; detecting water content, viscosity, and contamination level of the lubrication oil by respective sensors and transmitting the measurements to a transducer; and analyzing the water content, viscosity, and contamination state of the lubrication oil from the measurements and outputting the results. The step of analyzing the state of water in the lubrication oil includes the step of measuring water content by measuring the temperature, relative humidity of the lubrication oil, and using a KF(Karl Fischer) method, the step of calculating an absolute temperature(x) and water solubility of the lubrication, the step of calculating the first linearity equation, and the step of calculating the saturated humidity of the lubrication oil by substituting water solubility equation to the first linearity equation. The viscosity of the lubrication oil is obtained by measuring the viscosity at current temperature and then outputting the measurement as an electric signal, and converting the measured viscosity to the specified viscosity by management.
