    • PURPOSE: A wiper operation control apparatus is provided to determine the speed of wipers based on the amount of rain obtained from the acoustic frequency delivered to windshield and automatically operate the wipers at the determined speed. CONSTITUTION: A wiper operation control apparatus comprises a storage unit(106), a signal processing unit(102), and a control unit(104). The storage unit stores a table in which frequency characteristics corresponding to rain sound, vehicle speed, and wiper speed are associated. The signal processing unit collects sounds detected around the windshield of a vehicle and processes signals to obtain frequency characteristics corresponding to the detected sounds. The control unit obtains wiper speed corresponding to the frequency characteristics by referring to the table stored in the storage unit and controls wipers to operate at the obtained wiper speed.

The actual speed of the wiper blade is compared with a nominal speed at the switch off time.
