    • The present invention relates to a device and a method for detecting an abnormal tool in a machine tool, which can accurately detect an abnormal tool in a machine tool by measuring cutting force between a tool and a workpiece in consideration of various factors of motor overheating. The device for detecting an abnormal tool in a machine tool comprises: a voltage/current measuring unit which is to obtain three-phase voltage and current at a stator end, measured at a spindle motor and a servomotor during the operation of a machine tool; a load torque calculating unit which is connected with the voltage/current measuring unit in order to calculate and remove influence of iron loss, deceleration, and input voltage inequity, and is to identify a jam and a lock-in phenomenon; a cutting force calculating unit which is connected with the load torque calculating unit, removes influence of copper loss and friction load based on information obtained in a rapid transfer section, and estimates cutting force applying to a tool based on information on the kinematic position of a motor; a memory which is connected with the load torque calculating unit and the cutting force calculating unit, and is to store information including reactance, an iron loss resistance function, a motor capacity reduction rate function, a torque ripple, and an average value of the estimated torque obtained from the rapid transfer section; and a cutting state unit which is connected with the cutting force calculating unit and provides information on a cutting section of the machine tool.
