    • PURPOSE: A device, a ,method, a system, and a recorder for distributing media are provided to enable media corresponding to content requested by a client to be distributed to the client in a form requested by the client, or in a form adapted to various terminal capabilities and network conditions. CONSTITUTION: A server(100) of a media distributor performing a content distribution service and a client terminal(110) are connected via a network(120) such as the Internet, wireless communication network, or the like. The performance of media transmission from a server(100), which is a media distribution apparatus, to a client terminal(110) via a network(120) is assumed. Media of different forms are stored in a storage section(101) of the server(100). The storage section(101) stores, as media of different forms, the views(d101) that are original media, and content previews comprising information related to the views(d101). The views(d101) are AV streams comprising video, audio, speech, text, etc. The previews(d102) are AV streams and representative still images prepared separately from the views(d101), comprising a collection of videos of characteristic parts of views.     • An apparatus for distributing media is provided to distribute media corresponding to contents requested by a client with a client request type. An apparatus for distributing media includes a storage unit(101), a request receiving unit(104), a media selection/conversion unit(102), and a media transmission unit(103). The storage unit stores an original media view of contents and meta data having a plurality of segments for describing the view. The request receiving unit receives a distribution request of a preview having specific information, view information and desired time information selected from list information having the specific information for identifying the contents, the time information, and the view information. The media selection/conversion unit extracts the segments which is adapted to the view information and the time information from the meta data for the contents corresponding to the specific information included in the distribution request. The media selection/conversion unit generates dynamically a preview as an abstract image of length corresponding to the wanted time information by connecting views corresponding to the extracted segments. The media transmission unit transmits the generated preview to the client.

    • A method and apparatus for synthesizing speech. According to one variation of the method and apparatus, a plurality of speech segment data units is prepared for all desired speech waveforms. Speech is then synthesized by reading out from memory the appropriate speech segment data units, and a desired pitch is obtained by overlapping the appropriate speech segment data units according to a pitch period interval. According to a second variation of the method and apparatus, speech segment data units are prepared for only initial speech waveforms and first pitch waveforms, and differential waveforms. With this variation, subsequent pitch waveforms for speech synthesis are generated by combining the first pitch waveform with the corresponding differential waveform. According to a third variation of the method and apparatus, a natural speech segment channel produces natural speech segment data units in the same manner as the first variation, and a synthesized speech segment channel produces speech segment data units according to a parameter method, such as a formant method. The natural speech segments and synthesized speech segments are then mixed to produce synthesized speech.
