    • Provided is gene sequence of SRE(sterol regulatory element) which combines with SREBP(sterol regulatory element binding protein) at transcription regulatory site of a glucose transporter type 4(GLUT4) promoter concerned in glucose homeostasis maintenance in adipocytes. The SRE DNA fragment regulates transcription of human glucose transporter type 4 and comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, wherein the SRE DNA fragment has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:3. A method for screening a compound activating transcription of GLUT4 by SREBP-1 comprises the steps of: (1) preparing an expression vector containing a promoter containing the sterol regulatory element DNA fragment and a reporter gene under regulation of the promoter, and an expression vector of SREBP; (2) transforming a host cell with the vectors; contacting the transformed host cell with a candidate compound; and (4) measuring the activity increase of the reporter such as luciferase.
