    • PURPOSE: A base plate for a magnetic recording medium is provided to have good uniformity, to have better adhesion capable of enduring a smoothing process in forming a film on a nonmagnetic substrate, and to enable the thickening of the film. CONSTITUTION: A substrate for a magnetic recording medium comprises a nonmagnetic substrate(1), a background deposit layer(2), a soft magnetic layer(3), a record layer(4), a protective layer(5) and a lubricative layer(6). The nonmagnetic substrate(1) has a surface which is made via a hydrophilic treatment process. The background deposit layer(2) is formed on the nonmagnetic base(1). The record layer formed on the soft magnetic layer(3) is made of Co, the protective layer(4) formed on the record layer(4) is made of cobalt, and the lubricative layer is made of fluorine material. All the layers are formed via e.g. a sputtering process.
