The cover is coupled to the opening of the housing. The cover forms a sealed space between the cover and the housing. The liquid phase medium spreads the ultrasonic wave from the transducer to the cover.

    • A calibration apparatus and a calibration method are provided to image a target organ by correlating sequences of ultrasound images and position measurements. A calibration apparatus includes a motion assembly, a marking circuit, and a processor. The motion assembly moves an imaging probe(28) having an ultrasound transducer and a position sensor to obtain a first sequence of ultrasound images and a second sequence of position measurements simultaneously, through a calibration point with known coordinates. The marking circuit marks the ultrasound image obtained by the ultrasound transducer in the first sequence when the imaging probe is in the calibration point. The processor calibrates a time offset between the first and second sequences by correlating the marked ultrasound image in the first sequence with the position measurement in the second sequence of which coordinates are equal to the coordinates of the calibration point.
