    • An exhaust emission purifier which can perform fuel addition to an exhaust purification catalyst quickly when it is requested while suppressing overheat of the exhaust purification catalyst. The exhaust emission purifier of an internal combustion engine comprises an exhaust purification catalyst (8) for purifying exhaust emission of the internal combustion engine (1), and a valve (10) for adding fuel from the upstream of the exhaust purification catalyst (8), wherein a period combining the interval for adding fuel from the fuel addition valve (10) with a pause interval for stopping fuel addition is repeated in order to control the exhaust purification catalyst (8) to a target temperature, and the fuel addition valve (10) is operated such that the pause intervals are provided to sandwich the addition interval between them in the period. Length of the pause interval provided before the addition interval is altered depending on the temperature of the exhaust purification catalyst (8) at the start point (P1) of the period.

    • An exhaust gas purification device capable of appropriately purifying harmful components discharged even from an internal combustion engine or a combustion device operated mainly in excess-air conditions. Particularly, the exhaust gas purification device is capable of appropriately removing nitrogen oxides, particulate matters including soot, etc. and in addition, capable of maintaining its purification capability without reduction. The exhaust gas purification device has, in an exhaust path (2) of an internal combustion engine (1), a nitrogen oxide adsorption material (4) for temporarily adsorbing nitrogen oxides and separating the adsorbed nitrogen oxides in a temperature-increased environment or a reducing environment; an adsorbed matter separation means (3) provided on the exhaust upstream side of the nitrogen oxide adsorption material (4) and causing exhaust gas or air to be the temperature-increased environment or the reducing environment; a combustion device (5) provided on the exhaust downstream side of the nitrogen oxide adsorption material (4) and including an air supply means (15), a fuel supply means (6), and an ignition means (7); and a filter device (40) provided on the exhaust downstream side of the combustion device (5) and capable of capturing particulate matters contained in the exhaust gas.
