    • Low plasticity burnishing of coated titanium parts is provided, wherein a Ti-based coating can have embedded defects, the defects can impart one or more of structural weaknesses to the coating and coated parts, and the coating is subjected to a burnishing process to impart a residual compressive stress to alleviate at least one of the structural weaknesses. As a method(100) for treating a deposited Ti-based material, the material including a matrix having first nominal chemical composition and a first characteristic grain size and first characteristic grain structure, and a plurality of discontinuities within the matrix, the method comprises the step(108) of burnishing the material. The burnishing comprises fluid roller burnishing. The method further comprises the step(104) of depositing the material onto a substrate by at least one of electron beam physical vapor deposition, cathodic arc deposition and sputtering. The method further comprises the step(110) of shot peening the substrate on a second area which is not covered by the material, wherein the material is on a first area of the substrate.
