    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum arc re-melting furnace capable of monitoring the quality of electric contact between a stub welded on a consumable electrode and an outer cylinder for conduction supplying current to the stub, when refining alloy by vacuum arc re-melting. SOLUTION: On the operation method of the vacuum arc re-melting furnace including current supply to the consumable electrode through a contact face of the stub and the outer cylinder for conduction, the stub is welded on upper end of the consumable electrode, the consumable electrode is held by clamping a protrusion at the middle part of the stub by an inner cylinder for holding, and the outer cylinder for conduction is made to contact the peripheral part of the upper face of the stub. The electric resistance of the contact face is calculated and displayed by electrically insulating the inner cylinder for holding from the outer cylinder for conduction, and by measuring a voltage-drop between both cylinders during operation. The furnace is operated so that the contact resistance value gets into a range suitable for respective furnaces. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
