摘要： A digital video decoding system receives packetized video data representing programs conveyed on a plurality of video channels. The system includes a plurality of buffers (30, 50) for storing encoded video data representing images of video programs conveyed on a corresponding plurality of video channels. An individual buffer, corresponding to an individual video channel, stores sufficient encoded video data to prevent an underflow condition following switching to decode a program conveyed on the individual video channel. A processor (60) initiates switching to decode a program conveyed on a selected one of the plurality of video channels in response to a user channel selection input (70). A decoder (110) decodes encoded video data received from one of the plurality of buffers corresponding to the program conveyed on the selected video channel as determined by switching initiated by the processor. The decoder also predicts (130) a next channel to be selected by a user based on, (a) predetermined user channel and program preference criteria, (b) predetermined user channel navigation patterns, or (c) user data entry device sensory data.

摘要： A receiver system (12) automatically adaptively tunes to broadcast signals that are variable in the number of channels that are transmitted, their signal coding type and their modulation format. A system receives (15) a digital bitstream representing video information encoded in one of a plurality of different formats, and transmitted on one of a plurality of transmission channels. In the system, a method for acquiring data transmitted on a transmission channel involves selecting (17) a transmission channel from the plurality of channels and selecting (17) a modulation format (25). The method also involves tuning (20) to receive the modulation format and determining (50) whether valid data is being received on the selected transmission channel. The method steps are repeated until valid data is received. The method may also involve selecting (17) a coding type (30,40), and tuning to receive the coding type. In addition, the method of acquiring data may involve capturing program guide information and re-tuning to receive a transmission channel in response to the program guide information.

The apparatus includes adaptive decoders 50 and 60 for providing a first decoded output as a function of a code rate selected from a plurality of code rates and selects one of the plurality of code rates in response to a code rate control signal. The apparatus also includes adaptive deinterleavers 80, 85, and 90 for deinterleaving the first decoded output in accordance with a deinterleaving function selected from a plurality of deinterleaving functions. In addition, the apparatus includes an output signal processor 125 for processing the deinterleaved output data to provide the decoded output data. A demodulator includes an adaptive error decoder 110 for detecting and correcting errors in the deinterleaved output.

SOLUTION: A distributor 31 distributes an IF signal of a LNB to a remodulating part 32 for CH1, a remodulating part 35 for CH3, a remodulating part 38 for CH13 and a remodulating part 41 for CH15. The front end part 33 of the remodulating part 32 for CH1 extracts frequency components corresponding to a channel CH1 from the IF signal to demodulate the frequency component, and outputs a TS corresponding to the obtained channel CH1 to a modulating part 34. The modulating part 34 modulates the TS into an IF signal and outputs the IF signal to a multiplexing part 44. The multiplexing part 44 multiplexes the IF signal corresponding to channels CH1, CH3, CH13 and CH15 inputted from modulating parts 34, 37, 40 and 43 and outputs the IF signal to the distributor of a subsequent stage.
