摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a metal matrix composite having high specific strength and uniformly stable properties and being manufacturable at a low cost. SOLUTION: In the former stage where hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is applied at a temperature at which HIP treatment can be done and which is within a high-temperature range of the diffusion bonding temperature of the metal matrix, to a pressure vessel in which a preform prepared by incorporating reinforcing fibers of silicon carbide, etc., into a metal matrix of titanium or titanium alloy is sealed, the inside of the vessel to which initial pressure is applied is subjected to temperature raising up to a temperature in the region lower than the above HIP treatment temperature and within the low-temperature range or medium-temperature range of plastic deformation temperature and this temperature region is maintained for a prescribed period of time to carry out preforming. For example, in the case of the above titanium or titanium alloy, temperature in the pressure vessel at the above preforming is made to about 300 deg.C to to 100 kg/cm .

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Ti alloy composite reinforced with SiC fiber composed of thermally sprayed preform, and its production. SOLUTION: A preform, in which SiC fibers arranged at equal spaces are fixed with a Ti alloy sprayed coating film having a composition of Ti-4.5Al-3V-2 Fe-2Mo, and Ti alloy foil of the composiiton are prepared. The preform and the foil are alternately piled and then heated and pressurized to undergo integration into one body. The resultant composite is heated and held at 800-900 deg.C to diffuse oxygen as an impurity in the Ti alloy sprayed coating film outside the sprayed coating film. After heating and holding, water quenching is carried out without delay, by which the SiC fiber/Ti alloy composite can be produced.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a completely new composite material of copper and carbon, to obtain a new functionally gradient material contg. carbon and to obtain a producing method therefor. CONSTITUTION:This functionally gradient composite material is the one with a prescribed shape essentially consisting of copper and carbon, and in which the compositional ratio of copper to carbon in the material continuously changes in at least one prescribed direction. As for the method therefor, the one obtd. by impregnating felt with resin and executing thermocompression forming (step S101) is carbonized by firing (step S102) to obtain a carbon material preform (step S104). In this preform, pyrolytic carbon is heaped (step S105) to obtain a carbon material in which bulk density changes in a prescribed direction (step S107). This carbon material is subjected to silicification treatment to improve its wettability (step S107), and pores in the carbon material are impregnated with copper (step S109) to obtain the functionally gradient composite material of copper and carbon.
