    • PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield useful as an intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, polymer additives, etc. in high yield, by reacting and iminoacetic ester with a compound having an active methylene group.
      CONSTITUTION: An iminoacetic ester expressed by formulaI(R

      2 are 1W 4C alkyl; X is O or S), e.g. methoxyiminoacetic ester, is reacted with a compound, having an active methylene group, and expressed by formula II (Y and Z are 2W5C alkoxycarbonyl, 2W5C aliphatic acyl, cyano or benzoyl), e.g. methyl cyanoacetate, to give the aimed compound of formula III, e.g. 1-amino-2,2-dicyano-1-methoxy- carbonylethylene. The reaction is carried out in the presence or absence of a solvent, e.g. benzene, at 10W150°C for 0.5W120hr, preferably under anhydrous conditions. The ester compound of formulaIis a novel compound when X is S, and obtained by reacting an alkyl cyanoformate with an alkyl mercaptan in the presence of HCl.
